'Pretty In Pink' sequel...interesting! Director plans 'Pretty In Pink' sequel
Saturday, April 2 2005, 15:27 BST -- by Daniel Kilkelly Director John Hughes has announced that classic '80s movie Pretty In Pink is to get a sequel. The teen film followed high school student Andie, who developed a crush on the school's new guy, while her friend Duckie, who secretly loves Andie, is forced to step aside. The sequel, which is planned for a 2006 release, will show fans what has changed for the characters now that their high school days are over. The movie's original stars - Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy and John Cryer - have all agreed to appear. Let the rain come down...17 days.... | |

What else have they got to do? Duckie always came across as gay to me. So does Cryer so i didn't buy that part of the movie. I would rather see a sequel to The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles. | |

a little trivia:
james spader and andrew mccarthy were in three movies together and james spader played the villian each time. Pretty in pink Less than Zero Mannequin  Let the rain come down...17 days.... | |

"Sixteen Candles," 16 Years Later by Sarah Hall Oct 14, 2003, 7:40 AM PT Sixteen Candles has been granted a birthday wish--a sequel. Pull out the yearbooks, throw on the varsity letter jackets--it's high school reunion time for the gang from the 1984 John Hughes comedy. 32 Candles will update the lives of Sam Baker, Farmer Ted, Long Duk Dong and the rest of the gang. "Our goal is to pay homage to as many of the original characters as possible," David A. Newman, one of the writers chosen to pen the update, tells Variety. "Who wouldn't want to write this?" The original film was based around Samantha Baker's (Molly Ringwald) 16th birthday, a day that went unobserved by her family. The made-for-television special will pick up the story around Sam's 32nd birthday. Keith Merryman, the other writer on the project, called Sixteen Candles "a film that anyone who's Gen X on down has seen a hundred times. It's like a comfort film." So far, no word on whether the original cast will be approached for the sequel. Ringwald's manager had no comment on the project. The special lies in the hands of USA Network. Anthony Michael Hall, Sam's nerdy admirer, Ted, in the first flick, has current ties with the network--he stars in their series The Dead Zone. The original film also featured John Cusack, Joan Cusack and Edward Andrews. Buffy Shutt and Kathy Jones, producers of the 2002 surf-pop flick Blue Crush, will shoulder the responsibility of producing 32 Candles, along with Ken Holdren. It's not a task they take lightly. "Sixteen Candles" was suck compared to "Pretty In Pink" and I didn't like "Pink" that much! But the sequel could be OK but I wouldn't rush out to see it. | |

Not sure why it's not done, since I don't think any of those people could be all that busy (maybe the Cusacks but they didn't have a big part). | |

...love John Hughes movies...so, I'll check it out...although it's not a Hughes film, I'd rather see a re-make of or sequel to Less Than Zero... in a sequel James Spader could continue his role as Rip and let the movie center completely around him..maybe more of a continuation than a sequel... | |

Both sound like really bad ideas  I hope they don't mess up the memories of 2 really good flicks

and even though pretty in pink is one of my top 5 fav movies....i agree with everyone else here. it seems to weird. but...ill prob see it if it materializes.

I have not seen "st elmo's fire" but I've seen "pretty in pink". Its ok. "breakfast club" is alot better though. | |

Meanwhile, Hollywood has officially run out of stories Yep! Everything's a remake ("Guess Who...") or based on a previous written work (which isn't so bad, actually, considering many great films are). It just seems like there is a lack of totally original screenplays. Shame. | |

As long as John Hughes is involved I can *hope* that it won't suck too bad....and then it's only if they do get the original cast. I loathe sequels with different people playing the roles.
I'm positive I'll watch...I know I'll have seen worse. My hubby is the craptastic err...I mean B movie king  | |
