if you have been or live near disney world.. i have a question for you

alright, im seriously considering taking my babies this year woot! but, shhh its a secret nod

heres what i wanna know...

from what i've seen on the net, the tix are about 30-35 per person/per day, right ? anyway to get them cheaper ??

hotels ?? im going to want to stay someplace that has a pool, a bar, eating area, perfer to have breakfast included nod someplace near some cool shopping, any ideas there ??

to go from where im at its about 1350 miles to drive eek thats ok with me, i dont mind making the trip, the kids are great in the car nod but, the thing is, if we fly down, we would have to rent a car while we were there, right ? and at least this way, we would be able to see the sights while we are there nod any thoughts on this, or ideas of what to see on the way ??? remember, we are comming from kansas nod

there are three places to go there from what i see.... universal studios - i think that would be fun, has anyone gone there ?? kids ages are 7 and 10, they may actually be to old for disney sigh so, maybe this is a better idea nod then theres sea world, or whatever its called.... how about that, is that a good place to go ???

i'd rather go to florida than california shrug although, i would LOVE to go through arizona and new mexico and search out some shops down there for gems and turquoise woot!

so many questions, anyone have any ideas ?

This may sound rather silly, but I've had this idea for a while.

It's a machine that takes all the small, left-over bits of soap and compresses them into a large, usable bar!

Everyone's a winner! woot!

If I could only find a backer..... sad

I live about 50 minutes from Disney World.

My favorite Hotel there is the the Marriott World Center.
There are some good bargains on International Drive (see Orbitz.com or hotels.com)
If you want to be near shopping, you can stay anywhere near International Drive.
The best places to shop are Downtown Disney, Boardwalk, and the actual Parks themselves.

All the major hotels offer either free or very cheap daily values on Bus Rides to all the major parks.

If your Kids are 7 through 10, make sure they meet the hieght requirements for the major thrill rides (normally between 47 inches and 51 inches). All the websites for the parks display height requirements--they are STRICTLY enforced.

You can often find scalpers that let you in, but they can only let 2 person in at a time--they have lifetime passes and often charge people about 20 dollars to get into the parks--they just claim your their "guests". As for legit tickets, I don't know if you can get them cheap or not.

Another good idea is taking them to a water park. Wet N Wild, Typhoon Lagoon, and River Country are all excellent ways to kill half a day. I've NEVER had a bad time at any of these parks.

There is no reason to get or rent a car if you plan on staying at one of the decent hotels--the bus system can get you to all the major theme parks. HOwever, if you want to visit Busch Gardens in Tampa or the Kennedy Space Center in Cocoa Beach, you'll need a car.

As for the difference between Cali and Florida--FLorida's selection of Parks, Rides, and entertainment venues for vacationers dwarfs the west coast offering--but, keep in mind, it tourist oriented environment is ALL that Orlando really has to offer--it's void of real culture or charm--the get that you'd need to drive an hour and half north to St Augustine, or a hour west to Tampa's Ybor City district (a cuban version of the French Quarter).

I'd recommend driving at least one day to Sarasota (just under 2 hours from Kissimme) to Lido Beach, and watching the sun set while browsing some of the shops at St. Armand's circle on Lido Beach--very nice. A perfect escape from the hustle and bussel of Orlando. The beaches on the west cost of Florda have better sunsets, and the sand is as white as sugar.

I'm a transplant to Florida, but I absolutely, positively love it here. And I've been to places like Bangkok, Frankfurt, New York City, Paris, etc....

1. Go to Days Inn, their very cheap. The evenings are warm (like walking into a warm oven when outside). So make sure your hotel has A/C.

2. Check on the disneyworld web page on their hotels. They do have some cheap hotels on the grounds too within the magic kingdom. I happened to stay at a time share in kissimmee (5 minutes away from Disney) www.disneyworld.com

3. Take lots of sunscreen, wear sandals - be prepared for a lot of walking as the magic kingdom is huge. Purchase 4 day passes (you cannot see everything in a day).
Get to the gates for 9:00 a.m., as by 11:30 there are lineups at the rides, anytime after that be prepared to wait 1 hour in line for some popular rides.

4. There is the Disney Store where i live and i can get the passes that way, go online and check and see.. www.disneyworld.com

If you go to attractions then go to Epcot centre, MGM studios, the waterslides in town, Cape Canavral (take $$ as there are toll booths on the freeways).

Take Northwest Airlines, pit stop in Minn/St. Paul for connection
canada

I worked at Disney World during their 1st phase of construction up to the opening in '71.

Not sure how old your kids are but if they're into music there's a segment of the park I played at a few years ago called Pleasure Island. It's a night thing that features all kinds of music performers and is set up like a street party.

Pretty sure it's a separate admission.

i think ages 7 and 10 are perfect for disney... woot!

like ab said... you have to a certain height to enjoy the rides
plus younger kids get too tired with all the walking and standing in lines.

my family went to disneyland when i was 5 and 7... i have a lot more memories from the trip when i was 7 - five is too young i think

I don't know what's legal in Canada, but we don't allow that kind of thing here in Florida.

My work sent me to Orlando a few years ago for a week. The crazy part was I was helping set up a new shop that worked overnights so my co-worker and I would come home form work in the morning, take a nap, go out all day, then nap again and go back to work. We managed to see Epcot (I'd skip it), Universal Studios (pretty fun) and SeaWorld (my favorite! I got to pet dolphins!! and I love the manatees!). Also checked out Downtown Disney (eh, it was alright) and it turned out they were launching a space shuttle while I was there so we went and watched that too. We spent a day driving to a beach on the West Coast, and AB is right, definitely worth checking out. The sand and water were gorgeous!
Can't say much for the price of hotels and cars as work covered that for me. $30-35 sounds about right for admission to parks and things, but that was a few years ago, so tough to say what it would be now.
One thing about driving, everyone is either incredibly old or a tourist so NO ONE seems to know where they're going. That got old real quick.
