orgers with babies or about to have one read this:

information about crib death (cot death, SIDS)

new theory about mattresses and the chemicals they contain reacting with fungal spores creating toxic gases babies breathe in.

www.cotlife2000.co.nz

It all makes sense to me. I hope manufacturers of mattresses, bassinets, prams and porta-cots might do something to reduce the dangers. sad

I am very thankful my 3 babies are still with me, I have used the same mattress with each subsequent child which apparently increases the risks. eek

This hasn't really been an issue with us, since we're co-sleepers.

My daughter has her own bed now, that she sleeps in sometimes, but it's a regular twin mattress on the floor, so she can get in and out of it at will.

I've heard bad things about baby beds. Do you know askdrsears.com? There's good info there about safe baby sleep.

I just read (in a totally unrelated article) about the very same chemical being used in treated pine, they are now urging manufacturers to NOT make children's furniture, decking and other things that children may come into contact with, with treated pine. sad

I've started putting the baby mattress in the hot sun each afternoon, might kill off some mould - UV rays are pretty strong here. I will not be ordering any of these products, but I am following all the other SIDS recommendations. My babies co-slept with me in my bed until they were 6 weeks and then slept in their cot next to my bed.
I will still be keeping an eye out for more research into this. I do believe it.
