"school daze" mostly sucks. It is so muddled and the scenes are so dragged out and dull. As I stated, a few of the songs save the movie from being over a quite a naff movie.

"shes gotta have it" has some bad acting.

Does no one remember "jungle fever"?

Awful movie. He was trying too hard at that point to be controversial.

I don't get why it was really? Good movie though.....I c ur point. The hype was pretty unbearable. Now the concept (luckily) has dated.

Rhonda:

I couldn't agree with you more. The movie spoke volumes to me especially considering the fact that during my freshmen year I went to a Historic Black College. So, Spike brougt out alot of truths that had been hidden in our community for quite so time now and people didn't want to talk about

My Favorite film of his is Malcolm X. But I truly, madly, deeply loved Mo Betta' Blues. That film is just so sophisticated. Everytime I watch it, I wish that there was a club like that in the city that I live in where there are no thugs, and skanks. Its just jazz, comedy, and people just chillin' with a drink doing their thing...

thats one of the things that I like about Spike, he shows that there are other things that african american's do. Rather than what is portrayed most of the time, typical stereotypes like just going to the club, have sex with multiple partners, free load off of people's kindness and buy expensive things without working hard to get them (like you see in these music videos).

It gives the rest of us motivation to take part and participate in other things than going to "black bike week" or other functions where someone is always willing and ready to mess up everything and fight so that function can be shut down...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I sorta knew it would be horrible but I wanted to see how Spike lee was portraying Black women. I didn't care for the underlying theme that women don't need men anymore with the exception of sperm. (the lesbians in the movie)

It's not even that they're using him for his sperm - all the lesbians are like knocking down his door to have mad, passionate sex with him, and they're all loving it. Terrible. As much as I love him as a film maker, he really needs to put more effort into his female characters.

"she hate me" was wild although it did make you think (as all spike lee movies do), if you were in that guy's position, living the high life and then all of sudden you lose your job, how far would you go to keep all of that??? Or does it matter?

I didn't agree with him going along with it, but it was interesting to see how everything turned out with the decision he chose.

not one of my fav movies from spike, i put in the "i don't care if i ever see it again" bucket along with "the 25th hour" and "Girl 6".
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I love Malcolm X, but Do The Right Thing, He Got Game, Summer of Sam, and Bamboozled are my favorite Spike Lee films. I recently caught She Hate Me and enjoyed it as well. Spike is one of my all time favs...he is a grossly underrated director/storyteller/artist.

Calhoun u played me the hammer card again? That is unfair. My point was a valid one. "school daze" is a film that might be good if u have experienced a college like that before. I have not. The ending is also crap. Spike was too heavy handed on that point.

I had no idea about "shes gotta have it" though. I guessed it was cheap and his first, but OK fair enough. Still is a movie I don't like though. I may watch it again though. At least we agree that "girl 6" is pretty naff. Shame as the subject matter is interesting.....I was looking forward to that one.

"he got game" was often overlooked I feel as a "look, another basketball movie", so it got passed on. I love basketball movies, but this is so much more then that.

The story of Malcolm X's life is incredibly profound. The performances in the movie were top notch. That said, I'd still recommend that folks read The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Nobody can tell the story better than Malcolm himself.

Considering Spike Lee is constantly going on about racism, you'd think he'd realize the irony of his anti-Semitism.

OH LAWD... lol The phones were WAY over the top & I really can't think of one instance where I liked the placement of P's songs in the movie confused I'd have to sit through it again & I just don't see that happening soon razz The one thing Spike did right in that one was cast Isaiah Washington - he is FINE! horny
