i dont even know what to say my children just came home from school, after LONG discussions, and i called and spoke to my sons teacher at home as well... it appears as if while my sons class was outside today at recess, a car drove by, put their hand out the window with some sort of 'object' which was unable to be seen, and shortly there after a 'gunshot' was heard.
the children were taken in immediately, the school put on lockdown, the kids were in the 'under the desk' position with all doors to classes locked. the police were called, they blocked the area, and searched for any bullet remains.. thats all i know at this time. that was at 11:45 AM today. im truely sick, im scared to death, and i JUST DONT KNOW if i can trust sending my babies back... what do i do ? One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

Call the police station for starters. Other than that, try to stay calm, although I know that's not easy. Don't make any rash decisions yet, despite the obvious gravity of the situation.

thank you i called the police station, they are going to have an officer call me back - thanks guys, i needed to vent, and i cant let the kids see me this afraid, i dont want to worry them more. Important thing is, they're safe and with you now. The danger has passed and now you need all the information, calmness of mind, and time to decide what you're going to do from here.

the police called me back, he was very very nice... we talked, i read him the letter that the children were sent home with. he advised me to call back in the morning and talk with the sergent that was on duty during the time that this happened. he said, either since he didnt personally know much about it it means that they have found no reason to be concerned OR that there is a detective working on it, in that case, the police would be out of it now for the most part. Damn that's fucked up. I don't know what I'd be doing if in your situation, but it sounds like you're handling it quite well.Maybe you could get w/ other parents and see if you can't work out a schedule to be there during recess?

thats a good idea..but, it seems to put them too close to danger, instead, i will allow my babies to go back to school *they have worked to hard on their grades to have some stupid fucker come screw it up for them* HOWEVER, i will not allow them to go outside for recess for a few days, maybe a week until we see that everything has cleared up..... i know its gonna be hard on them, and i hate that they are the ones that get punished, but, given the outcome that we could have been looking at, i think that its worth a week of seeing a 'sad' face, just as long as i get to see that face at all.. i have NO idea how mothers who have lost their children in school shootings even begin to handle it to lose a child in anyway is horrible..... but, i JUST CANT go there mentally, ya know ? anyway, thats how i've decided to deal with it .... and im calmer now - thanks guys for letting me vent yesterday, i really needed to not let the babies see me that shook up One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

thank you for your opinion.... school shootings happen all over the place now, so, where you live is not an answer. at any rate, im waiting for the police to return my call, and i will make the decision after speaking to them as to what i will do monday morning. as far as changing the school, we moved about 6 months ago, the kids were doing well in school, and i didnt want to disrupt them during the middle of the year... they will be changing at the beginning of next year anyway, we had made this decision long before this happened. Well I know for some people it is hard if not nearly impossible to relocate, but the threads you have posted concerning your children, and no doubt you love them with all your heart, but from what I have read.. even though they are doing academically very well.. they should not be exposed to such danger and threat in their so early innocent young lives.. I know you have expressed your concerns here and I have read them and my heart goes out to you, but naked, today is a dangerous world, if you can move or relocate so your kids arent exposed to such danger I wish you well, otherwise I would do my damndest to set up some kind of campaign with the school, parents and neighbourhood to sort this shit out with the police and or whatever measures possible.. I know it is hard and you feel like you are banging your head against a brick wall, but surely if you all get together something has GOTTA change!! It cant go on like this!

I know it is hard and you feel like you are banging your head against a brick wall, but surely if you all get together something has GOTTA change!! It cant go on like this! youre not hearing me red.... i said that i MOVED about 6 months ago, but i let the kids finish they're year at the school that they were at, my son had been elected into the student counsil, and both of their grades were doing very well. to move a child mid-year makes it hard for them to continue with the grades they are making. its stressfull on a child to make them make that change during the year, therefore i have made the effort to make things easier on them by offering to drive them ALL THE WAY across town to school everyday... thats 20 miles there and 20 miles home, twice a day !!! the school that they will attend next year is less than a mile from my house. see, when you have kids, you have to look at what is in their very best interests.... thus the reason i am waiting STILL (it better be soon) for the police to call me back and let me know what the outcome of yesterday was. then i will make a decision of what to do with my babies. if it is a danger for them to be there, then, unfortunately they will no longer be there.... which is VERY sad as there is less than 8 weeks left in school this year. however, 8 weeks is plenty enough time for something horrible to happen to one of my babies, and that is NOT a gamble i would EVER take, i think you all know that about me by now. so, in short, relax, i got this under control.... my babies will make it out of this just fine as will i (this shits rough on momma's as well) but, i take my JOB as a mother VERY VERY seriously, and im not afraid to take whatever measures i see fit to protect them. thanks for the concern. oh, and jen, no worries, im not planning to move overseas anytime soon One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

Seems fucked up IMO and yours.. Too many kids, druggies, get fucked up in the world and think the world is their oyster, and make this a nasty place. I was just saying I hope this gets sorted, either by the police or by you parents sticking together and starting some kind of campaign.. if that doesnt work, well what other choice do you have? Watch them 24/7 and protect, and they will feel no kind of childhood freedom or move away?
