I use these all throughout my apartment as door stoppers, cuz I always thought they looked nice. Well I gave a few to my mom as well. She was propping a door in the living room open with it, so my dogs could lay in the sunlight.

Lately, its been real sunny around here. The other day, our oldest dog came running into the kitchen flipping out, and my mom walked over to the living room and smelled something burning. She noticed the ball was pushed away off to the side, and saw a big burn hole in the carpet.

I guess my dog freaked out and knocked it away when she saw what was happening. She's mortified of lighters or matches. My mom said it was really hot when she tried to pick it up, so I can only imagine what it did to the dogs paw.
