SAM-e for depression

Does anyone out there take SAM-e for depression?
If so, how long and what do you think about it? Does it have an side effects...?

Thanks in advance!

peace & heart

The reported side effects of SAM-e are mild, and occur infrequently. They include stomach upset, diarrhea, headaches, and nausea. If you are taking prescription medicines for depression, or if you have a bipolar disorder (also called manic depression), you should consult with your physician before using this product.

Thank you Dr. Mach!

I have read all of that on the web. I wanted a personal account, have you taken it before for depression??

Thanks!

I have taken many medications, but not that. The anti depressants really fucked with me. Weight gain (on top of what I had) and dry mouth and shit. I feel better without them, but they did have their purpose and time once with me. Just go by how you feel shanti.

my cousin did, and so did my mother for a bit...

what i understand is that they are not as effective as a prescription, which is what i take.. so, i cant personally help you with the other, i can only tell you that from what i SAW, it was not as helpful. sorry hug wish i had better news...

on that note, its WELL WORTH the visit to the doc to get yourself some help with depression, its a nasty thing to have to live with, and you have but one life shrug why not make it a happy one ?

good luck

Well, I asked about Sam-e because it is a natural alternative to the RX antidepressants. I have been on several RX's for depression/anxiety and I hate the side effects.
I have heard that Sam-e has little to no side effects and I do not have to deal with a dr all of the time to get my scripts.
just trying to find alternatives.
I just gradually went off of Lexapro, too many side effects, creating more problems, which I do not need right now.

Thanks Jersey- I agree antidepressants SUCK!

Hope all is well with you!

Thanks!

I have een unable to find the right RX for me obviously. The dr's do not want to help solve the problem, they only want to write you a script and send you on your way.
I am in the process of switching docs, hopefully this new one will be able to help.
I have tried many different antidepressants, will little help, just may side effects..

well, i take mine for more than depression... so, it may not work out well for ya shrug but, the last antidepressant i was on by itself that i thought was ok was zoloft, it didnt cause many side effects for me, and seemed to have me smiling a bit more nod

finding the RIGHT doctor is key !!! if they arent connected with you, and you arent totally honest with them, this unfortunately could be a long struggle. try anything at least once.. cuz, nothing is worse than being depressed... TRUST me, i know hug

hug right back at you!

I have been dealing with anxiety & depression since I was young, possibly all of my life. I have been on a few things that helped a little, one was Zoloft. I really do not remember too many side effects with that one.
Lexapro had some really annoying ones for me, I tried to hang in there to see if they would go away but they kept getting worse. It did help with the depression though.
In the mean time, in between dr's I am trying to exercise more and eat better & take supplements to get me through.
I have read some really good things about SAM-e & 5HTP also, I am trying both.

If you ever need anyone to talk to about your depression- don't hesitate to drop me a line.
I have found sometimes it helps to talk about it.

Have a great day!

awwwww, youre too sweet to be depressed hug

that was a stupid thing to say, im sweet and i get depressed as hell wink anywho, the anxiety issues, got that problem too (sad isnt it lol) currently, i am taking valium for that as needed, i've found that the longer the meds are in my system, the less i need the valium, but, its here for me if i need it. at first you get really sleepy on it, but eventually you get used to it nod and you just get a calming effect from it..... and GOD knows thats better than a panic attack - those damn things are HORRIBLE !!!!

for sure, lets chat sometime nod sounds like maybe we have some crap in common, who knows, maybe we would have some fun stuff in common too wink

and right back atcha... you have a FANTASTIC DAY !!! go outside, take a deep breath, and know that although today may suck, and even tomorrow may suck, EVENTUALLY things will be better hug

lots of heart
