Mobile phone usage if kept to a minimum doesn't really bother me. I could care less if someone next to me on the bus or at a coffeeshop or something is alone and chatting away with a friend. I take exception, however, if I'm with someone and they take a call that lasts longer than a minute or so. And if its in a restaurant or something and the call is THAT important, they should apologize and take the call to the lobby or somewhere else.

Yes! If they are in company they should excuse themselves and go somewhere else and make the call brief and return to the person they are in company with.

people who talk on their cell phones while dealing with a cashier or a waiter are people who need to have their cells taken away, thrown on the ground, and smashed into a fine, glittery dust. that's just some rude BS.

Very true! I remember giving lectures to friends all through the late 90's about proper cell phone etiquette as folks I knew got their first phone. giggle I can be a STICKLER when it comes to etiquette.

People just don’t have any manners any more.
* Taking a call at the table, without excusing themselves.
* Talking on the toilet
* Carrying on two (or more) conversations at once.
* Letting their damn phone ring and ring and ring
* Not turning off their phone at shows, and/or talking during a performance (Musicology Tour comes to mind—I want to kill her!!!)

However, I will note that if the friend you are with is spending more time on their phone than with you…find another friend.

I kept my phone OFF, except when it needed to be on. I don’t even carry one now—I’m Free!!!

They're kind of important. I mean in the old days, if you had a bad date, you kind of had to sit through it. Now you can just stay on the phone with a friend who bails you out, and be annoying as hell on it.

Some dickhead was booking a table in a restaurant at ONA.. he was stood behind me, shouting and shit.. I mean WTF>?? I told him off, my sister did and I think he left the concert after that.. seemed he was more interested in after than now.. what a prat! But his ignorance ruined other ppls nights.

I also hate it when your plane touches down and everyone switches on their phones, like their life depends on it, and there are so many beep beeps going on with messages and shit - drives me mad!! mad

at the mall the other day my mum approached this couple sitting in the food court, both talking on their phones. She tapped the lady on the shoulder and said "why don't you talk to each OTHER?" it was a joke but she meant it too. The lady laughed but probably thought what a nosy bitch. lol

I admit, we used to have fun with our phones a bit back in the day. A large group of friends and I used to have breakfast at the same place nearly every Sunday and we were forever running into other friends there and getting calls to make plans for the day. Occasionally, there'd be 9 of us sitting at the big round mafia table all on cell phones, some just to folks at other tables in the restaurant. Oh, the things we did to amuse ourselves.

Ok, but there is taking advantage of technology and coming a cross as a complete dick head, or being a gentleman and dealing with the situation as tactfully and politely as you can.. razz

I dont understand why people get so snooty about mobile phones. I think you can answer one at a restaurant as long as you keep the call brief and dont leave your company waiting. I dont see why other people on other tables need to get shitty about it.

I also dont undertand why people get shitty at others for talking on phones on publix transport. It's okay for the snotty teenagers to talk to each other at the top of their voice on a train or bus, talking about stupid teen shit, but as soon as one of them talks the same shit into a phone people are aghast. I dont get it. shrug
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I am not getting shitty about it.. just wonder why someone goes out with a friend to spend time with them and ends up talking to someone else not there all night.

See, I agree with you there. I think there's a happy medium. If you're alone and on a bus or something, hey-you could just be talking to whoever's sitting next to you. Its not any different. And as long as the proper etiquette (keeping the call short, excusing yourself if longer than a minute, hanging up before dealing with waiters, cashiers, etc) is observed, I have no problems.
