I don't get it. What the hell has happened to people? It used to be that if you were sick, you stayed home.

I have 4 people in my row (out of 6) sick. Sneezing Coughing...heck one threw up in the kitchen this morning. This happens ALLLLL the time. No one calls in sick. It think it has to do with the conversion most companies have of combining personal time and sick time. People see that time as one long vacation...and see calling in sick as cutting into that precious time. Meanwhile EVERYONE gets sick at work...and it burns me UP

This one gal who threw up said she had no PTO left that she has booked all of it up for the whole year...not allowing herself a sick day (she has a few she said..but will use those for personal time). So, I have to hear her hacking and bitching how bad she feels.

And the other thing is that folks here are SO busy that taking one day off throws everything out of whack. When did this nation become one of such dire need to have people working ALL the time. I mean what work is so important that they can't even work from home?

I take good care of myself and pride on the fact I don't get sick that often. I am a very busy person and getting sick for me throws my whole life out of Whack. Not to say I am not a culprit of not calling in either...however, if I am MISERABLE or hot and feverish or throwing up...I ANIT COMING IN.It's just that simple. I even put out and ANNOUNCED I had airbornes...very few have even picked them up.

You should ask for an apology.

There's also another factor in all this - short term disability. When u call in sick, the company charges u with a PTO day, but if it's serious enough 2 keep u out 4 several weeks or whatever, as determined by a doctor, then STD will pay u and u then get your PTO days back. I think if more companies were more lenient with STD and used that 2 cover sick days instead of PTO days, maybe more employees would stay home instead of getting other people sick at work, which is something I'm sure most companies would appreciate, right?

i would love to be able to call in sick everytime i have the sniffles...but unfortunately i don't get paid sick leave. as a single mom i cannot afford to lose pay...i am very sorry because i don't want anyone else to catch my cold but i have to think of being able to feed us, cloth us and put a roof over my sons head. i blame the company.

Where I work, they will allow you to use your PTO but it's still a point against you even if you have the damn PTO to begin with. That's just f***ed up.
