Do you find gratuitous swearing crude? I do. Now as you may know, I'm British and also charming, witty and intelligent, so I very rarely swear, and when I do, it's usually as part of some hilarious satirical point or other. But what about that other type of swearing? You know, the type that has no comedic quality and would not be missed from the sentence were it omitted. Sure, it serves a purpose as a means of inducing disdain and spontaneous cringing fits in coherent, articulate folks, but is that reason enough to do it? Dis-cuss.

'hilarious' is in the eye of the beholder.
NPGMC doesn't allow profanity, and it's a prince fan site. it's the official one, in fact! perhaps you'd be better served there? just a thought.

I can sing along Prince's pre-JW songs. No problem at all. But I would never say those words in Spanish

My name is PT and I have a potty mouth I dont swear when Im working tho unless Im talking to a friend or something. I dont know many people who dont swear...but alot of words are switched to things like FOOK or SCHNITZ or FREAKING...I think it depends on the context that it is used in whether its offensive or not but thats just me, some people were raised around non-swearing enviroments...I wasnt.

Billy Connolly-style profuse swearing is great. Most UK humour with swearing is usually funny because there is some intelligence behind it.
Swearing for the sake of swearing isn't really funny to me. Aggressive swearing Chris Rock-style swearing...I'm less likely to laugh at that, too. I find that kind of abrasive swearing just....well, abrasive and unecessary. And unintelligent. Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and even Robin Williams already did that much better 20+ years ago, but with substance.

My parents are awesome and hardworking and my family worked hard for all the luxuries they have. I am not ashamed of them cause they swear and even tho they do swear once in awhile my mom still bitches at me when I swear around her. I dont think swearing means you were raised improperly. I think my parents did an awesome job of helping me be the person I am today. I may have a potty mouth but I know when to not use it and Im a professional and I have great people in my life who are sophisticated and were raised by snobby parents and they swear. I think if you look at that and not take the time to look at the person behind it then you're missing out.

*coughcough* http://www.prince.org/msg/7/138862 *coughcough* just askin'. Absolutely! That right there is an abomination. What's worse, however, is when an already dull joke depends upon a perma-tongued-cheek orger being genuine in his conception of a thread.

if something so much as a profane word (or anything that may resemble one) affects you this bad, it may wind down to just you. everything begins and ends with yourself.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. --Eleanor Roosevelt I don't feel offended by it as there is no reflection upon me unless I'm the one swearing. So, in summary, no.

Yes, and I also said "Sure, it serves a purpose as a means of inducing disdain and spontaneous cringing fits in coherent, articulate folks, but is that reason enough to do it?", an impossibly aloof comment if ever there was one. Wait there, let me run and get my degrees so that we can really analyse this thing and break it down.

There are times when it adds force to a statement, and at other times humour. I think the best thing is for me to apologise to anyone I've offended by being charming, witty and intelligent (oh, and British) and for you to lock up the thread. I'll go and ply my wares over at NPGMC. They seem like open-minded folks.
