My sig: The Meaning of Miscegenation

I've gotten a number of orgnotes asking what does miscegenation mean.

Here you go:

mis·ceg·e·na·tion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (m-sj-nshn, ms-j-)
n.
The interbreeding of different races or of persons of different racial backgrounds.
Cohabitation, sexual relations, or marriage involving persons of different races.
A mixture or hybridization: “There was musical miscegenation at a time when segregation was the common rule” (Don McLeese).

I didn't put anything about it not being acceptable. As a said, why try to make it into something deeper AND negative.

I know what u're saying. The last part just seems rather superfluous is all. I mean, of course it's not required. What does that say really? The final part after "Black is Beautiful" would seem to be redundant if your sig's not in direct response to anything. I mean, whoever suggested miscegenation is required for anybody to be beautiful? confuse Forgive me if I'm missing something.

I think what the meaning is that all women can be beautiful, and an awful lot of the time the black women that are recognized by the media as beautiful are the misce...miscgag..miscega...what Rhonda said.

I see! Perhaps I can see a parallel here in Thailand, where many soap stars and models have one Thai parent and one Western parent, and where light skin is desirable and basically fawned over. Ok, I think I understand where it's coming from now. I guess the last part needs to be there for the folks who need it, not that those folks would likely understand the word! lol It just shouldn't be an issue that miscegenation would ever be required.

That's not a trait unique to Thais. I was in Haiti for a few months, and it's the same thing there. What makes it even more sad, is that Haitians are a black people, so their adoration of light skin is even more noticeable and hurtful to the population that is not mixed or light in appearance (90% of the population). There is institutionalized discrimiination against dark skinned blacks there.

As for Thais, their adoration of all things Anglo is stuns me. My mother even has that trait.

I mean, look--I love my white brothers and sisters--ya'll are fine and I can't deny it. But so are other races--some of them just don't know it.

Thailand is terrible for racism, albeit sometimes it's quite subtle. I mean, it's not subtle if you have your eyes open though. It's all over television in the adverts for skin whitening cream and in the soap series' with dark skinned Thais playing maids and gardeners employed by the light skinned Chinese. The trouble is, and this is admittedly a generalisation, the people are not always the most astute when it comes to advertising and marketing and are very easily led regarding fashion, culture and whatnot. As much as I love the Thais for their many qualities, there's no doubt they fawn over Western culture and are as a nation naive and easily led. I don't know what would ever change that. I wish people here would be more individual and have a little spark about them! shrug
