i think when we have a lock on the tobacco ban, we should go after coffee drinkers next. caffeine is bad for the heart, and coffee breath is gross, especially if you have to ride a crowded subway train to work every morning. nobody wants to smell that. also, when people leave a pot of coffee on the burner in the breakroom and it starts to burn and stink up the area, that can't be healthy.

i think we should ban sugar and bleached flour too, but one thing at a time. nod

Non smokers have an attitude that it's their way or the highway when it comes to a resolution on smoking in public places, and it irritates me, especially when I'm being taxed out the ass for ciggarettes. Smokers deserve rights too, period. As long as smoking is legal, and we pay a high price for it, we should be allowed some public places to smoke.

right on, tom--i don't smoke, but most of my friends do. i don't give people shit for smoking. i think it's gross, sure, but i don't spend my time bein all pissy towards people and like "omg, you're polluting my aaaaair!" and what-not. lol

whoever invented the smoking ban shoulda thought this through a bit more.

I know, and I think sometimes it's hard for people who have never smoked to really understand (some do though, of course). I didn't smoke until a year ago and have been hooked for the last year to the tune of about 20-40 a day, up until 10 days ago that is.

I've never felt like there was anything I couldn't do if I put my mind to it, but giving up smoking really got me. I hated not being in control of my body like that. I have a lot of sympathy for people who smoke with these tigtening rules coming into place. Ultimately, like u say, it's legal and people have rights. You can't sell something to people legally (and at what a price!) and then treat them like lepers.

It's banned in Ontario here, so im happy.
I really have no sympathy for those who choose to live by slow suicide.
I've had too many relatives die of smoking, and 1 over second hand smoking, and she never smoked a day in her life. Poor thing.

Why should someone's dirty habit effect someone who chooses to live a healthy lifestyle????

not to take the thread too seriously or too far of topic but...

i hope none of you who are against a smoking ban are in support of universal healthcare.

Noone wants smoking to be made illegal, because there's too much money to be made off of it. Hell, our government is cashing in on it bigtime. Yet they don't want to be bothered with the consequences of it. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either ban smoking alltogether or deal with the second hand smoke. It's everyones problem.
