Newbies

I just hate it when people start picking on the so-called 'newbies', for no reason. I mean, what do you have to be proud of? The fact that you've been a member of some purple-site for over a few years? Give me a break.

I'm sorry, but it just bothers me. Everyone has the right to ask questions, even if they are 'silly'.

I just don't get it. People have to act like they're part of the Prince.org-elite. I mean, this is an INTERNET-site.

Theocratic order?

I think we should be glad for every 'newbie' that discovers Prince. Or this site. Can't we be welcoming, or at least neutral?

So that reason excuses people to do it here? I personally don't care for it or find it funny. There are no stupid questions, just silly answers.

Yeah, and it's also a natural reflex of human beings to position themselves by bashing others. But 'it happens every where' is not a very solid argument to me.

thing about it though is here, the "bashing" is good-natured. i've been on other forums where it's intentionally hurtful to newer people. you either get it or you don't. if you don't, tough.

I agree MarieLouise, and it certainly should not be institutionally condoned. Like this at HouseQuake for example:

http://www.housequake.com...adid=37666

It's actually a sticky in their GD forum! That seems incredibly uninviting to me. It surprised me because I've always thought that HQ was in some ways a more inviting forum for new users. But I don't know it that well.

Of course this stuff goes on as part of any social dynamic and I don't know if it can be regulated, but I hardly see it as the sign of a healthy and growing community.

By the way, do you see that in this forum or PM&M?

Good thread.

Silence newbie!

she's not new.

at any rate, i can understand that some people can be overwhelmed by the stuff they see on this entire site, not just on m & m. we are by no means your average prince fansite, y'know.

he knows i'm not new. even under this name i'm not new.

i wouldn't say that this site is cruel to newbies but it can be a bit intimidating to someone who has never been here before. but then, as you get to know the site it's not that bad. if anyone starts shit you just hit the 'report msg to moderator' button. and then it gets fixed.

Sanity is a performance...It's a matter of presenting yourself as safe... When people are perceived as unpredictable, they are socially rejected...And it's no good telling a student he won't be held responsible for the content of his imagination [he will]...so the student must pretend to be dull...People's normal behaviours destroy other people's creative talent. All the social weapons we use against other people we also use, inwardly, against ourselves.

I never said it's a cruel site, but it gets silly sometimes. I don't want to be the moralistic angel or something, but still I think that we should try to evolve in a way. For a teenager, it's normal to build your own personality by bashing others. Later on, we should be able to make this bashing into criticizing.

Sometimes, the bashing is rather funny. To me. But I don't need to be amused on the behalf of others. Every one should get a proper chance on this site.

But my time around here and my thinking has led me to see this as a very average site that is supporting an extraordinary community.

As you know, it's not the "site" that keeps me around.
