In London, you have to see the Tate Modern. love

After that, maybe the normal Tate Gallery.

Avoid the National Portrait Gallery, because it's shit. neutral

i like the Louvre - the architecture of the gallery itself is great. nod i found it a little dull in comparison to some other galleries in terms of content tho'. boxed

The Prado in Madrid. Picasso museums in Barcelona & Cadaques; Dali museum in Figueras.

The Louvre is best seen in small doses; if you come in after a certain hour (3 I believe it is), entry is a lot cheaper and you don't wear yourself out by walking around that thing all day...

Sheesh there's another museum in Paris I'm trying to think of but the name escapes me... covers what's more or less a pre-Impressionist period... argh!! I'll post it if I think of it.

ooh - if you like van gogh, the museum in Amsterdam is very interesting.

Lot of pencil drawings and sketches though, so possibly for the slightly more hardcore, rather than the disinterested. confused

MOMA in the US needs to give back the Starry Night though.* mad

* things have probably moved on since i was there about 10 years ago.

Isn't there a Van Gogh museum in Aix-en-Provence as well?

Beside Le Louvre, in Paris there's also Le Musée d'Orsay, absolutely amazing.

Like Heiress said, The Prado in Madrid is outstanding.

There's also the Vasari Corridor in Florence, Italy.

Madrid is a very interesting city. It's my favourite capital city so far.

Prado nod Add to that one the museum which has 'Guernica' by Picasso. 'Reina Sofia' it is called I think. Beautiful museum.

When I saw Guernica, it was housed in a special annex of the Prado, with all related sketches and a whole history of the painting... But that was back in the early 80s. I take it that things have changed since then?

Here's a few in London that tend to get overlooked but well worth checking out.

Royal Academy

Somerset House

The Wallace Collection

Serpentine Gallery
Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
