Moderator | this makes me happy too.... art is simple for me, I like what makes me feel, I like what makes me look twice. It's not a big intellectual process for me. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Caravaggio.
Simply because he made some of the best pieces of art I have seen. They convey so much and the texture, color and action is so rich. My favorites of his include: Bacchus Beheading Holofernea (1598) Velazquez Ladies In Waiting -- this is such a beautiful piece. Jacob Lawrence The Migration series. GREAT!

i just learned about him today in art history. apparently, he murdered at least two men and broke out of prison after they convicted him. He was a very troubled figure. His life story is so tumultuous. Check out the movie "Caravaggio." Explains a lot about him. He had quite a few male lovers and I think he slept with a few of the boys he painted in his portraits (or maybe that was the fictious movie I'm drawing from?) Nevertheless, the guy had a wild life.

It was directed by Derek Jarman and it came out in the late '80s. It was a very sexual movie, sometimes violent. Reflected Caravaggio somewhat.
