Its beleivabel because it is indeed based on many truths - the alterations to the Mona Lisa for example are true as is the thing about teh uneven horizon.

There are many other truths that the book hints at but doesnt directly mention.

Did you know for example that, supposedly, Joseph (Marys husband...obviously) is meant to be from the blood-line of kings...so isnt it a bit weird that this woman, married to Joseph, just happened to have a baby who is a 'king' but its nothing to do with a royal bloodline and Joseph certainly never got her pregnant...yeah right!!!

Have I just ruined the book?

notice the way John the Baptist has his hand slicing across Mary's throat too

I haven't read "The Da Vinci Code" (and never will after reading that crap ass "Angels And Demons", that Dan Brown guy needs to do some serious research instead of mashing a bunch of theories together...) but that's Peter's hand, the same guy who holds the knife...
Probably, just like the bag in Judas' hand, it just depicts what is coming (Judas getting the 30 coins for betraying Jesus, Peter defending Jesus with a knife...)

but yes its an eye opener.. for 100's and 100's and 1000's years there hasnt been anything so controversial re: Jesus

Read "Holy Blood, Holy Grail"... That Dan Brown guy just strings together age old theories and presents them as fact to the masses who probably never researched a thing about Jesus and his bloodline and just accept it because it's a "Pop phenomenon"...
Dan Brown is more annoying than the bible itself...

At least the way he has written it he has opened up the eyes of the media.. I am sure your "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" is a great read, but you gotta admit, the number of copies Dan Brown has sold worldwid enad the reponse he has received from his readers THEN other authors who have covered this subject will get more read

OKAY, LETS START WITH THE WORD "FICTION".

This book is found in the FICTION section.

In the Book of John, Jesus doesn't share the cup in the same way as the other passover stories. Perhaps this would be why DaVinci did not have a chalice. In the Book of John, Mary of Bethany comes to annoint Jesus. The disciples aren't thrilled, especially Judas. Perhaps that is why there is a woman. OR maybe there just was a woman. John and John the Baptist are not the same person. "John" the disciple was one of Christ's beloved disciples, whom he had take care of his mother later on.

But I digress.....

FICTION. Creative, yes, but Fiction. DaVinci--ARTIST. Giving his own interpretation.....

Yes, I did.

Somehow, De VInci managed to replace all of the deciples and Jesus himself with white models.

Very very clever.

Very good post. Yes, the book is fascinating, but Brown weaved together a number of divergent lores, ignored certain historical facts, employed a few anachronisms and altogether made up things in The DaVinci Code.

I've no problem with some of the declarations Brown made concerning the sacred feminine and even speculation about why Jesus, as a devout Jew who taught in the temple, would not have been married. But he took mad literary license in many areas, and readers should go in knowing that.

and honestly, for me, if that is a woman in the picture, ROCK ON! But its that so many people are just eating this guy's imagination up as truth ( I know I am gonna catch crap from those who would say the same about Jesus in general). I recommend The Last Temptation of Christ. That was an interesting concept about if Jesus had decided to hook up with Mary Magdalene instead of going to the cross.

I had a tough time watching Last Temptation. But I think it had to do mostly with finding Willem Defoe hard to look at. lol
