HELP!

So I work for a fairly big company. We have a huge email system with a large directory. Today I get this random email :

Carrie,

Can you believe I actually found your name it outlook? I will pretend my outlook didn’t work so I don’t have to acknowledge the awkwardness of not e-mailing you sooner. How’s it going over there? Things are crazy over here. I just ran in to an old friend who works over in your neck of the woods. His name is censored . Says he knows who you are at least. Wanted to let you know I didn’t forget about you. Later!

Its from his in-company email address. It's signed with his name and title and such. I have NO idea who this person is, or potentially how long it's been since they were supposed to contact me. It sounds more social than anything... What should I do??? Do I ignore it? Do I respond asking who they are? Is that really rude? What do I do???

Thats a good idea. But I'm being a little covert first. I've forwarded the email to 2 of my friends who work in the same building to see if they have any idea who it is and/or how I would know the person. giggle

I get that sometimes. I work far a very large company and sometimes people pick the person above me or below me.

Note back to him..."I'm sorry, I am not sure who you are? Do I know you...or are you trying to reach someone else? My name is BLAH and I work for BLAH and do BLAH (maybe not so much BLAHS). Anyway, please refresh my memory as to who you are. Sincerely....

And if you end up knowing him..."OH MY GOSH!...I'm so sorry how are you? Etc etc. You can pretend your outlook didn't work if I can pretend I knew you biggrin "

Fabulous advice! I think I will follow it! biggrin
I sent out an email to several friends as well. No one has any idea, but his phone number was at the bottom so 2 separate friends called him (both pretending to be a wrong number) to see if they could jog their memories. giggle

Alright, I emailed as the fabulous spaceboy suggested and realized its totally someone I know, just haven't talked to in a while and I never knew his last name so it was throwing me all off. I feel like SUCH a fool now. redface

But, thankfully he just laughed at me. giggle

Watch it, some companies monitor all emails coming and going. You don't need to give them a reason to fire you.
