'dre Don't go south of the river I am presuming that your comic is not particularly PC! Freaks are all over London, Camden is a good start, but a bit predictable. East end is where it’s at. Hackney, Stoke Newington – Whitechapel famous in “old Landan Taaaan” and jack-the-ripper’s stomping ground is largely Bangladeshi. Soho (behind Leicester Sq) is vibrant and colourful. If you want the 60’s vibe then Carnaby Street. “Signing on” for dole money is a thing of the past. Employment office provides what is now called Job Seekers Allowance and as R&Rdave pointed out you have to “prove” you are looking for work to collect your allowance and when a suitable job turns up you are expected to take it. To initiate the process you need Birth certificate and/or passport and a P45 which is the certificate (filled form) you get from your previous employer to prove you are unemployed. A week or so later you go back for an interview where they ask what type of job you want blah blah and ask how you will be looking for it etc. Then you go back each Fortnight on the same day at the same time to “sign on” show your evidence of job seeking and wait for the money to be transferred monthly into you bank account. Simple. Oh, you have to be “available to work” ie fit and healthy and in the country. Have fun. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

Jon said: senik said: Kilburn and Cricklewood is also seen more as an Irish and Afro-Caribean community (I Sister had a Post Office there).
: Not true mate... i live in Cricklewood. It is very Pakistani/Indian/Arab orientated. The Irish have moved a little further west to Neasden and Harlsden. The black community are more towards Willesden... Kilburn is just a mixed bag of absolutely everyone... Anyway, this area is but a very small part of London... London has mixed culture everywhere you look... Ive got a mate that lives in Canada Water, now there is a desolate place... How long have you lived there bud' ? I'd have to differ with you a little pal, but as I did say my statement was a little vague as asians are more or less everywhere now My Sister ran a Post Office there for year until a few years ago (nr. Gladstone Park Gardens) and her in-laws have had a convenience there for decades now. So from my numerous visits, stays and from what my relatives tell me (who live and work there) it's not a place that you would exclusively call an "asian area" (unlike Wembley or parts of Walthamstow), definitey more of an Arab oriented place. As I mentioned, it may seem that way because of the dense pockets of asians everywhere in London, but if you ask anyone from that ethnic background I'm sure Cricklewood would be way down the list in "asian areas". I'll take what you say about the Irish and Afro-Caribean communties, but from the customers at my relatives store, there is still a fair few Irish and a lot of the Afro-Caribean communties left in that area. But hey!, as we concurred, London's just one big crucible of many bubbling elements "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

Carnaby St. seems to be getting constantly "jazzed up" though "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

Dubbed "Bangla Town" Like Predom said Shaomi, it sure is a vibrant and multi-cultural place .....by day! But by night??? That's when the grime starts to surface It has that ol' run down "east end" ghetto look too. Shaomi, the thing is it's not a suburb as per your criteria. It's proper "inner-city". I don't know how flexible/rigid your guidelines for your comic book are? "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

[/quote] Oh foolish me i used the term "suburb" but i actually meant "district" ou "ward" ---> i WANT it 2 b inner city. What u describe about East London seem 2 b more interesting that Camden because of the weird nightlife issue, i'm not too sure what i'll choose... (big dilemma here As 4 my guidelines, they r as flexible as i need/want them 2 b, i'm the writer, after all I'm surprised & enjoyed that so many people got in2 this debate, anyway

I had quite a reserved attitude, Gunthers argument for it being for education freaked me out a bit. It was either art or Medical but certainly not both. The pregnant woman and the in utero foetus' should never have been shown. I am still unsure how I feel about it now! Have to say I enjoyed it though; it was a privilege to see.
