NPP, you need to go with a blue-red. you have cool undertones in your skin, not warm ones. You are a 'winter' so so speak, so all those jewel tones look good on you. Don't get a warm red with yellow undertones or it might look funky to your skin tone.

I've decided I'm not going blonde anymore (for now). Last time I had my hair done, I basically had it done my natural color with some highlights.

Red is a really tough color to keep maintained. But if you're willing to do the maintenance it's a beautiful color. I had burgundy hair for years but I had to bleach my roots and then dye them again almost every month. It got to be a bit of a pain. Make sure you use special shampoos for red heads, it'll keep the color in longer.

If you're not sure, try the kind that washes off. Also, there are computer programs out there that change the color on an uploaded photo of yourself.

And YES, going red is something you can do yourself (unlike going blonde).

Red is a bitch to maintain. It fades uber fast. If you can find a shampoo for red heads that you like, that can work, but they tend to also leave color deposits on your hair and I never liked the shades it came out. I use a color protecting shampoo from Wella. Also - and this is the hard part - use as cool of water as you can stand for washing your hair. Using really hot steaming water opens the pores in your hair and will contribute to losing the color faster.

Yes, cold water will keep the color in longer. Compliments has a nice red shampoo that didn't leave any color deposits..at least not in mine! Good luck!

Bumble and Bumble has a really nice color line also, but the only bad part about theirs is that you HAVE to use both the shampoo and conditioner, because the shampoo has absolutely no conditioning agents in it
