Lucas: "...it will be the first 'Star Wars' that's a PG-13."

http://www.cnn.com/2005/S...index.html

Final 'Star Wars' said to be very dark

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks beware. The young Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker is about to turn to the dark side of the Force, and it won't be pretty.

Filmmaker George Lucas says his upcoming sixth and final installment in the blockbuster "Star Wars" film franchise is the darkest and most violent of the series, and is likely to be the first movie in the six-film set to land a more restrictive rating than PG.

"I don't think I would take a 5- or 6-year-old to this," Lucas said in a CBS "60 Minutes" interview set for broadcast Sunday. "My feeling is that it will probably be a PG-13, so it will be the first 'Star Wars' that's a PG-13."

The five previous "Star Wars" films carried a rating of PG, which stands for "parental guidance suggested" and is the second-to-least restrictive classification that can be issued for a film by the Motion Picture Association of America.

A PG-13 rating means parents are strongly cautioned that some material in the film may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13.

The tone of the upcoming final chapter in the "Star Wars" double trilogy is described by Lucas as a far cry from some of the more light-hearted elements of his earlier films, such as the cuddly Ewok warriors in 1983's "Return of the Jedi" or the goofy, easy-going Jar Jar Binks from 1999's "Phantom Menace."

"Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" will chronicle the transformation of the heroic Anakin Skywalker into the evil Darth Vader as he ventures to a mythical Hell-like planet composed of erupting volcanoes and molten lava.

"We're going to watch him make a pact with the devil," Lucas said in his interview with CBS correspondent Leslie Stahl. "The film is much more dark ... more emotional. It's much more of a tragedy."

"Revenge of the Sith," the third "prequel" to the original 1977 "Star Wars" film," is due out in May.

Its amazing to me that the media is just picking up on this. He stated in Vanity Fair a couple of months ago that it was more than likely to be PG-13.

what's this 'final' of the six movies business? aren't there plans for three sequals (i.e. episodes VII to IX) to the original three? That's what I remember reading. Bear with me that I'm not a Star Wars news-watcher.

I heard that there may be sequels but Lucas will not be directing them.

From what I understand, Lucas was asked that in interviews years ago and said "sure" just to get people off his back. Lately, he's been saying these six are it.

George should've shot some topless scenes of Natalie and went for the "R" rating.

There was originally gonna be a trilogy of trilogies, with the original
trilogy being the middle one. But in recent years Lucas has stated that
the six movies will be it, and he won't make the final 3 (or let anyone
else do them). I'm pretty sure that there were a few minor plot
simplifications made to remove the need for the final trilogy in the
new movie, as Episode III was a kinda link to where Episodes VII-IX
were gonna go (plus I heard that Lucas never fully fleshed out the
final trilogy beyond a basic story arc).

No, he's just telling the story the way he intended to. He could really care less what people think of Episodes I & II. He actually said that he's happy with them.

It will no doubt be a good movie as all the "original" Star Wars fans are well into their mid to late 30's and so on, thus having developed Dark Sides of their own!!!

That new trailer is suh-weet! But I don't want to be as disappointed as I was with "Attack of the Clones," so I'm not getting my hopes up this time. I will say that the arrest of Palpatine made the hair on my neck stand up. "Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?" This looks to be by far the best of the prequels.

And I read somewhere today that a t.v. show is planned, taking place between the two trilogies. That would rule. I think the "Clone Wars" cartoons were better than the first two prequels. My favorite was the Mace Windu episode.
