come on boys (and girls), what are you good at?

Still working on my lesson about gender-similarities/difference for tomorrow... Here's another question for you...

I'd like to end my lesson with a small gender fight, each time getting two boys and two girls in front of the classroom and giving them the same thing to do.

For example : tapping your head with one hand and circling with your other hand on your belly eek They've told me girls are better in doing this.

Or: crossing one leg behind the other, I've seen with my own eyes that also here, girls are the strongest sex.

Now my question is...could you think of small tasks like that that are appropriate to do in classroom? wink I need at least one that will be easier for the boys ! lol

Not as well as guys can, tho...it's the way a man's shoulder is constructed as opposed to a woman's shoulder. Something about it causes a man to be able to make the circular throwing motion unhindered, while females' shoulders are unable to do so...their shoulders cause their throwing motion to go off on a tangent a bit. Hence the phrase, "You throw like a girl"...no lie.

Very interesting theory Byron, but I don't think the teacher would be very pleased if I'd let the pupils throw balls in classroom. lol

I remember seeing a film/video of this a looong time ago, explaining it...showing the proper throwing movement for throwing a football and having a man do it...then showing women attempting the exact same throwing motion, and each and everytime their throwing motion went off-tangent and became more of a side-arm throw. The way our shoulders are put together is physically different, apparently...

Big whoop, so we can throw footballs better..lol...it's ok for a man to be able to do something better than a women. The world won't end. biggrin

You go to prince.org giggle. Now, i think that's the clever thing to do batting eyes

Sounds like a bunch of bs to me. The shoulder joint in men and women is identical.

I agree with the last paragraph of your post though.

Ok, ok, but I do quote my sources ! And the pupils really enjoy it. lol
But I do admit this is a very agreeable way of testing my plans and getting new ideas.

Last time I had to teach I stayed at my sister's place, who is 17 years old. I tested every new idea on her. After three days she was like 'Oh no Marie, not again'.

Checking and researching on a website is more fun, you people don't have to react if they don't want to. And the reactions are pretty diverse I must say.

I think Byron's right! That would be cool. You could try basketball with balls of paper and the trash can too. nod

Tomorrow's group is a fifth grade. So they're about 16-17 year old. The problem is that being a teacher is not my profession yet. There is another teacher sitting at the back watching me. She has to give me marks... She likes creativity, but told me to avoid driving them too wild. So throwing paper balls confused I would surely try this one if I could do whatever I wanted though.

Till now I have three assignements
1) the one with the crossed legs
2) the one with your two hands (tapping and circling)
3) Finding your way in a labyrinth (thanks Isadora for the idea!) They also say men are better at this. We'll see. lol

Sounds good...I didnt realize you were a student teacher ( that's what we call it in the USA) ... yeah, throwing ANYTHING is not such a great idea....

With the older kids a math problem might work too, boys at that age are statistically better with numbers than the girls.

what you have sounds great! Good luck! hug rose
