LA people! Help! I'm in town...where do I go....?

I'm in LA the weekend after next, as part of a Stag bash with 4 guys in total.

We are staying a stones throw from the Manns theater.

My question is, where can we go out at night!?!?

We are in town on the Friday and Saturday night, and as we have a stag with us, so we want to go somewhere as cheap and lively as possible. I have looked on a few websites, but I can't find too much lively stuff.

Where are the hidden gems? Is the Whiskey overated? Where is best place to star spot? Where is the best beer etc etc!?!

Please help!

I was in LA last year. If you are going to catch a movie, go to the Arclight cinema. It beats the rest hands down.

I went to The White Lotus to eat, which was good, but pricey.

I'm afraid you'll need a local to tell you the hidden good places!

Pick up a copy of L.A. Weekly. The new issue will hit Thursday. They are carried at record stores, liquer stores and in some newspaper vending machines. It is free. I am sure since you guys are so close you will check out hollywood and highland. They have a nightclub there called the Highlands and depending what is goign on that night, it might cost $10-20.00 to get in. They also have a bowling place called Lucky Strike which is pretty cool.

Cheap and lively in L.A. huh? You can check out a few bands or hang out in the bar area of the Knitting Factory which will run you $5.00-$10.00 depending on the bar entertainment. It is located very close to the Mann's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood. The Whiskey to me is not all that anymore.

My recommendation is if you absoloutly have to hit up the Sunset Strip, beware. The traffic is just horrible over there on the weekends due to cruisers. Some spots I would recommend hitting up bar or not, are the Hustler store just for pure entertainment, Red Rock bar for a short time, then head on down to the saddle ranch (that is a must for some decent drinking and the mechanical bull).

Miyagis is cool but very overpriced drinks and sushi. Plus, don't even think you are getting in if you have more than three guys at a time with you. They like the girl to guy ratio to be way higher.

Garden of Eden and the Gate are very cool clubs but will most likely have a $20.00 cover after 9 P.M. for men. Again, if you have the guys with you and no girls, you may want to seperate in line as it will help your chances of getting in.

If you are looking to star spot, non club-wise, here are a few suggestions. They usually do record shopping at Virgin Mega-store on Sunset, which also has the celeb filled Crunch gym there as well. There is a coffee shop on sunset as well one across the street from Miyagi's. It recently changed it's name so I do not know it off-hand.

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend going to a place called the Marchmont Hotel. It is very close to Miyagi's as well. It is a good place but a lil pricey. Just drink n eat slowly. In morning to mid-afternoon, Salma Hayek n Penelope Cruz have been spotted there recently.

If you are looking for something in the afternoon Saturday or Sunday, definitly hit up Melrose Ave. Not only will you see some weird cool shops but at certain botiques, celebs shop for one of a kind shoes or scarfs. Even if you do not see a celeb, Melrose is a good place to chill for a bit n maybe grab a bite to eat somewhere. It is fairly cheap just to window shop. Avoid Johnny Rockets and go to a smaller joint n take in the atmostphere.

If you guys are craving taking off to the beach, I would recommend Malibu, but Santa Monica Pier will be closer to you. You can either park in the mall for free for 4 hours or park in a lot, but the pier will be more expensive. 3rd street promenode is very cool yet more trendy than it used to be.

Hollywood Billiards on Hollywood down a bit from where you will be is a cool place to hang out. Decent drink prices and about $10.50 for a table. Late night meals are good at Mort's deli. Jerry's deli by the Beverly center is a celeb hot spot late saturday night's. Be prepared to fork over $11.50 for a half sandwhich and salad if you wish to go. Mort's and Jerry's are both open 24 hours.

These are some suggestions off the top of my head. Start saving up because if you want to star spot or what not, it is hard to do on a budget but can be done. I hope you have fun while you are out here next week.

Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles (Sunset and Gower). nod Your really close to it and the food is great. You may have to wait in line a few minutes, however. It is small and gets crowded.

The Formosa Cafe (Santa Monica & La Brea) is a classic Hollywood bar. You are close to that, as well. It's an old school hang out that has been in a ton of movies (Swingers, LA Confidential, to name a few) A good place to start the night.

The Cat & Fiddle Pub (Sunset & Hudson) has a great outdoor area that gets hoppin on the weekends. Good beer, pretty cheap, no cover. Look for a little brown sign hanging out front of what looks like a two story brown stucco office building. You need to walk into the courtyard from the sidewalk. The pub is in the back.

The Strip can get crowded, but you need to check it out if have never been there. The Whiskey is a good place to see a band, if anyone decent is playing there. If not, your paying a cover to see a typical bar. Same goes for the Roxy. There are also a few clubs on the Strip, but a bunch of guys from out of town can expect to stand behind the velvet rope hoping the asshole bouncer let's them in.

Have fun.

Do you mean the Chateau Marmont?

This is where Jim Bilushi died and is on the Sunset Strip. I'm not familiar with the Marchmont, although I have not lived in LA for a few years.

I think that's what he meant...very cool historical hotel.....Aside from Roscoes....another must if you can stand to wait in line (or not if you're lucky)...Pink's Hot Dog Stand...seriously it's more than just a hot dog...and you can pick from many different types!!!!! I've lived in LA for 3 years now and just discovered Pinks and I cant stop thinking about it....it's worth the wait in line and great place to hit up after a long night of partying...it's open late...

oh...it's on La Brea Ave. north of Wilshire Blvd...actually a couple miles north but south of Melrose....you cant miss it!!!!!

Have fun!

Are you sure? I thought Pinks was just north of Melrose. Good suggestion, however.

If you want to go shopping for CDs/DVDs Amoeba Music

http://www.amoebamusic.co.../index.php is the best place to go.It's right next to the Arclight Theatre not too far from where you're staying I think
