Hello. My name is CynthiasSocks and I'm a addict:

I've been pot free for 7 months- smoked habitually for about 10 years and spent around $400 to $500 a month, an ounce lasting 4 to 6 days.

I gave up smoking cigarettes about 7 years ago, but still enjoy an occasional smoke. I used to smoke a pack evey 2-3 days, but would often smoke a pack within 4 hours if I was in a bar or night club.

I gave up Xanax, Ritalin and vodka about 7 years ago- a great disco buzz but a nasty combination for me. A Jekyll and Hyde effect.

However... I love Vicodin ES but have a proper, legal prescription. Codeine and Canadian Club is a winning combo for me. But it's a rare, weekend, stay at home with a movie kinda thing!

An ounce of pot a week shocked

Here's my answer, everything on moderation. If you find yourself doing anything to excess (eating, drinking, drugging, sexing too much) then bad things will happen. Just smoke a joint a week or a vodka on Friday or a pizza once a month.
Or don't and tell us how bad some things are.

For me it started with moderation and over a ten year peroid became a wicket habit. My husband was ALSO smoking about an ounce a week- so together we were spending $800 to $1000 a month on pot. I'm so glad we gave it up- we were still responsible adults- went to work on time, didn't call out sick, paid bills, etc but everything in our lives revolved around pot. We couldn't make any plans that didn't involve pot. Could we get away for a puff- hated the movies having to sit there without for 2-3 hours. Weekend plans- if that bag didn't come the trip was cancelled. Thankfully we never were busted. In the end we just got so sick of smoking pot it was easy to let it go. We quit cold turkey Aug 13th (right after a Prince concert) and that's it- Never again.

good for you.....

but i still think each person has different levels of acceptance when it comes to drug/alcohol/food/sex use.....

i dont buy into this abstanence as the only option...and i have major issues with the american drug programs....AA and the like...its all about the money and not about helping people live productive lives..

Teacher

There ARE no recreational drugs as far as I am concerned. I consider all of them life and home wreckers, look at my fucking family. My dad STILL thinks he only got drunk "every once in a while". neutral

Thank you and you're right- each individual does have different levels of acceptance, dependance, and addiction. I don't buy into abstanence on all levels either- I love me some pain pills, but exercise control and use them with moderation. I'm completely over pot and never want it ever- doesn't stop me from going to places where it's going to be or to have judgements for those who use. I just did it to death- got burned out. Thank goodness I didn't require any drug program so I wouldn't know anything about that. I would agree with you that drug programs are about the money.

I don't think it is. Such a thread would belong in P&R. Don't think the topic starter had anything like that in mind, so folks should respect her request to keep it on topic.

Its just about what people perceive themselves to be when taking drugs.. its not about drug programmes or friends who take drugs or abusers or news articles.. its just what the thread and opening says.. so yes, this is OFF topic.. smile

I like pot weekly, liquor biweekly, and acid yearly.

I've been told because of weekly pot use that it's a lifestyle but I don't agree.

hmmm I have to say to each his own. I've had and seen bad and good experiences with drugs. I would never recommend any either way. I would tell you which ones are the bad ones and which are easily controlled. I personally don't think that E nor pot do much damage. All the others (including the widely accepted alcohol) I consider to be much worse.

I live in CA for the past 5 years...no 6 eek anyway, my view has completely changed by moving here. WHen you are at a party and you see like a 60 yr old guy smoking pot casually, it sorta takes the "evilness" away from it. A few thinkings I live by...

the War on Drugs is a complete scam...were all being duped. And it's mostly the Alcohol Companies that do a lot of the funding (so scared Pot will take out a big chunk of their profits). I could go on more about this, but this is GD.

And Everything in moderation...key word Everything. Be responsible in all that you do.

I don't think Drugs are bad, but they can be if you misuse them.

Drugs are bad, period, but a lot depends on dosage, frequency etc etc.

And that's in your opinion. You even qualified it...so they can't be all bad.

I also think that starting with Nancy Reagan, we have all been brainwashed into thinking this. Much money has been spent getting us all to think in a certain way.

Sure, but nothing positive can be said about recreational use of drugs. I think generally you need to stay away from things as much as possible if you don't need them. That is, if you want to live as long and healthy as possible. Of course there's bad and worse. Weed is bad, crack is worse. I know, two extremes, but I'm trying to make a point here.

confuse

I meant to say that how bad they are and what kind of long-term damage they cause depends on such factors and of course also your general health, tolerance etc etc.
