Peanut butter..yay or nay ?? Peanut butter ....!!!
Elvis used to eat it with bananas on toast, fried in butter, Prince seems to like it, and it´s supposed to contain lots of protein and iron..that being said,do you think it´s overall healthy to eat large quantities of peanut butter, or is the amount of fat and sugar too high compared with the obvious benefits ?? Which brands do you prefer ? I used to eat Skippy´s back in the day when it was still available over here ( sometimes I miss the Cold War years in Germany), then I switched to Jip or Jif or whatever, and these days I eat Barney´s Best, the creamy kind.. My favorite product was some organic stuff I bought at Rainbow Food in St.Paul, it was oily but good, nothing artificial in it , no hydrogenated fat, low sugar etc. etc. Do any of you peanut butter geeks out there know about the pros and cons of peanut butter ? I checked out a US peanut site, of course they had nothing but praise for peanuts, but I could´t find any neutral info. Maybe some of the hardcore American peanut butter enthusiasts would like to enlighten me about this great product ?? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

It's a good source of protein. A lot of athletes eat it or incorporate into their breakfast. The protein also keeps you feeling fuller longer. It does have fat, however, so I don't advocate eating it all the time.

It's kinda healthy, at least if you don't eat it 2 inches thick
on your bread every single day. But it would be more advisable to eat a small handful of mixed nuts a few times a week. Just peanuts doesn't nearly cut it where complex carbohydrates and minerals and vitamins are concerned. A mix of cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower and pumpkinseed with some raisins is probably as good as you can go. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter is my favorite. I don't bother with Jiff or Skippy or any of those because they are mostly hydrogenated soybean oil, not peanuts and peanut oil. Also, they have too much sugar and sodium.
There is a local fruit farm where you can grind your own peanut butter in their machine, but the peanuts they use arent roasted enough or something, because it comes out real light, like hummus. I've been eating peanut butter and grape jam on wheat toast practically every day (usually for breakfast) for at least the past 20 years, no joke, lol.

Peanut Butter- with chocolate. I dont like it on bread.. It just dont do it for me! The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom - Anais Nin

I eat 4 slices of peanut butter toast for second breakfast everyday so Yay!
I usually buy Jif alternating between extra crunchy and creamy. Extra Crunchy is probably better but you tend to go through it quicker because you put it on thicker because of the nuts. . [Edited 3/2/05 11:15am]

Thanks for all the replies...I really have a craving for it now, I could eat it right out of the jar.
Hydrogenated soybean oil in Jif and Skippy´s ? I didn´t know that..I mean I knew about the hydrogenated stuff, but soybean oil ? I guess the combination of sugar AND fat will stick right to your hips because sugar and fat is a dangerous combination, makes you put on weight real fast. I also like natural nuts and seeds as recommended by Istenczek, but I LOVE the taste and texture of peanut butter, and that´s why I was wondering about its health aspects. Nutella is alright, but too sugary for me...Nusspli by ZENTIS is much better.Chocolate spread gives me a bad conscience. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness!
