I'm not sure how the DJs do it, but I would think that the format would have to be MP3 to fit a lot of songs on because WAV files are too huge to be doing something like that. So, I'm guessing MP3s and a decent sized hard drive to store them all onto. Laptops nowadays should have enough disk space to accomplish this.

That's what my computer is- a jukebox. I've got 1,103 complete albums stored on my harddrive. I've got the computer conceted to my stereo. Having my entire music collection on my computer is great for parties- all the music is at your fingertips. Socks still got butt like a leather seat...

HEY! All my grandparents are dead! heheh...well, they really are, but anyway.... All you need is a CD drive on your laptop and a program to extract the music off of them. Go to download.com and see what they have there. I use a program called CDex, myself.

My files are stored on an external harddrive (as MP3s @ 192kbs)- so I can unplug it and take it anywhere. You could do the same with a laptop.
some of you here may have seen the inside of my harddrive Socks still got butt like a leather seat...
