I'm not watching but I'm keeping track of the results online. So far they're giving them to the obvious winners - BO-ring! I hope the major upset is in the adapted screenplay category.

In all the acting catogeries...EVERYONE knew they had it in the bag! There were no surpsies at all. In the case of actress, there was some controversy about Anette Bennging possibly squeking in there but it was all very predictable. Not a surprise the whole night...including the fact that Chris Rock played it waaay to safe by not making jokes about people who were, you know, actually there!

Voices, I could have sworn it was you who kept saying they won't give it to Swank twice so early on, so I hope you aren't counting that one (or maybe it was someone else).

Swank is the new Jodie Foster: Foster got her Accused Oscar at 26 and Lambs Oscar at 29....Swank was 25 and now 30/31.....don't think it is the age, or the number of years between awards, when you're good, you're good!

I'm sorry but Swank is no Jodie Foster. Not on her best "acting like a lesbain" day! Jodie was a child star that managed to became a respected mature actress and now of days is in producing...I doubt we'll see such growth in Hilary.

So, her acting ability between 90210 and Million Dollar Baby has remained constant?

"Panic Room"! That is also proof that she is an actress that can go away and then come back strong! Hilary Swank had the opportunity to have a career...and made "The Core"! Case closed!

Well....I'm not saying she is a bad actress and to be honest, I only saw a little bit of "Boys" so I don't have much to judge from but Jodie Foster is awesome! I miss her, too....I just don't think you can compare the two. BTW, not to say Hilary is stupid but Jodie is a genuis. She has a lot going on for her...

Jodie has made some bad choices as well, in 'Panic Room' she was downright annoying.....not a great acting-job, sorry.....

Hilary Swank is not a movie star. Period! Jodie Foster, despite bombs, still is. The comparison is shocking to me.

Why is the comparison shocking? It's pretty obvious to me, except for the fact that Jodie maybe started younger (Taxi Driver)..... Both actresses won double Oscars in a short period of time, both had good roles. What's your problem with acknowledging that? Are you afraid of anything new? I'll say it again, Jodie wasn't in a good movie for at least 10 years, I hope Hillary will be wiser.....

I'm sorry but that's where it ends! Hilary hasn't been in a movie that people have actually seen. "Million Dollar Baby" hasn't made "Silence Of the Lambs" money (keep in mind, adjusted for inflation, "Lambs" would have made much more than $130 it made in 1991...and it was released in Februrary so it didn't benefit from Oscar buzz like "Baby" will). I'd say give her time....but how much? I guess I'm just really into Jodie Foster so I don't see how they can compare

aha, so it's about the money a movie makes.....that clears up a lot.....so you think Clint only won this year because the movie was released at a convenient time and the Academy thought that maybe he's too old to live until next year? disbelief
'Passion' was overlooked as well this year, and the theme of that movie is at least as controversial for prude americans as MDB..... They were screaming Oscar when it was released. I believe if Gibson would have released the movie more strategically he would have had a shot, but 'Passion' is about the passing of Christ, hence the release around Spring last year (Eastern).....Gibson is a Jesus-freak and wanted to make a statement more than winning an Oscar.
MDB is just a fine movie and won for the right reasons, and so did Swank. Remember, she won her first Oscar for a small movie.....there must be something she's doing right.....can't think of Foster doing things right lately, we all know she has the skills!
