I got an iPod when I graduated from college in '03. I can't remember if he was working for Apple at that point. confuse

But yeah, he gets a discount on them. Not a FANTASTIC discount, but a discount. We just got Matt one to congratulate him on finishing the WA bar. smile

And he got a free Shuffle, which he kindly gave to me. I think that's actually the first free item he ever received from Apple. They get iPods to use at the stores, but they have to give them back if they quit within a year.

I'm a mac geek, so it is sometimes fun that he works there. But it's still just a job. shrug

MrJoker

If I have an older mac and want to upgrade, say, it's RAM and hard drive, what are my options?

That really, REALLY depends on which model you have. Let me know the model, and I'll let you know your options (Just FYI, if it's an imac or older then a G3, it's only worth upgrading for the geek at heart)... Most PCI-based Macs use standard memory and IDE drives (SCSI on the older ones).

As an example, I have an old PowerMac G3 "Blue & White", which I upgraded with 1 gig of ram, a G4 550mhz processor, a faster CD-RW (I think the original CD was 4x or 8x, I've got a 40x12x42x in there now), and (soon) a Raedan 7k graphics card and SATA card w/200Gig hard drive. http://eshop.macsales.com/ is a good resource to start with...

No problem, keep in mind the following general "Rule of Thumb for Upgrading Computers": When the total cost of upgrading is more then 60% the cost of buying a new (or newer used) system, buy the new (or newer used) system.

[of course, it doesn't apply to all situations, but that's why it's "Rule of Thumb" and not a "Law of the Land"...]

I just want to say, I love this place!!!!! hug

all the help is outstanding!!!

ok
where could I find a used one if the price is too high for the new. I am thinking about a notebook, and since it's looking like compatability is not a problem I am almost ready to go there. I have a desk top PC but I want a notebook for travel purposes and to take to class with me.

wow, thanks so much.

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.

If you're careful, e-bay can be a very good place to find decent deals. iBooks and PowerBooks are both highly rated, though I'd recomend staying with a G4 class system http://computers.listings...sofocusZpf
I'm not sure what your price range is, but be aware that Apples portable products command a very good price, though they are worth every penny. If you are not interested in e-bay, you may find some good leads here: http://www.lowendmac.com/ (when I look for used computers, I turn to e-bay myself, so am not very knowledgeable about alternatives at this time)...
