I wouldn't tip the tattoo-guy.....I mean you don't tip the cassier either when you buy a coke in the convenience-store, do you?

SassyBritches

i tip for services rendered...to a degree. when i get my hair cut, eat out, order in, get a manicure/pedicure, massage, facial, wax, etc i do tip. even the owner is the person doing the work, i tip...though, strangely enough, i don't tip my colon hydrotherapist. anyway, i am not familiar with tattoo etiquette but i would probably tip for a job well done. you could always ask another customer at the shop if all else fails.

good luck!!

I always tip my tattoo artist at least 20%. He does great work...and deserves something extra. And yes, the etiquette books DO say that tattoo artists should be tipped.

But etiquette books also set forth an exception: you're not supposed to tip the owner, whether you're having your hair cut, getting a tattoo, or whatever. I think that's the concern of TheDuck.

With that said, in addition to tipping tattoo artists, one should also tip body piercers. For a piercing, I might tip $10. For something less complicated, such as jewelry insertion, maybe I'll give $5.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.
