I just fired my first employee...maybe... Wow, how can people do this!?
I had just hired a very talented mechanic with a great personality but his work ethics sucked. He has been with the company for a week.By the third day he was taking an hour and half lunch when the rules state an hour. The third day it was two hours. Today, he was gone for four hours and was ready to leave for lunch. I have one employee I can't get to take a lunch to save his life because he is a work-a-holic (he comes from Cuba and though an iritating prefectionist, seems very appreciative of his employment).I also am very appreciative of the job (go a year and a half unemployed working part-time at minimum wage). The dilemma is I feel guilty about letting him go. I can argue that there are others who might be as equally trained yet are dedicated to their employment even if the motivator is the paycheck. All positions in this office pay $13.00 or higher.Part of me wants to give another chance but i had just talked to him this morning in regards to the lunch situation. Then three and a half hours... What to do, what to do? _________________________________________

Have you asked why he's going missing for so long? He might be having some kind of a crisis. | |

Unfortunately, it's too late my boss wants him out. I attempted to rationalize traffic and so forth. Yet, it wasn't until he walked out the door two things hit me. I thought I smelled a hint of booze on his breath and some one please explain how you are going to go looking for supplies to build a wall if you don't know the length nor height? _________________________________________
