Exactly. I enjoyed the movie, it made me laugh, but my big problem with it was just what you said. Giamatti was fantastic, but let's look at the character: a sloppy drunk with poor hygiene and little regard for anyone's comfort or feelings except his own. If the character were a female, men wouldn't get near her with a ten-foot pole. But at least in the movies, we're supposed to believe that men can be as disgusting as they want to be, and still get to bang two out of the three beautiful, sweet, intelligent female characters in the movie. I agree 100% FunkMistress. Why does no one talk about this? I've read at least 2 critics describe this as "the perfect movie". Perfect? A self-pitying, alcoholic who steals from his mother gets the sophisticated, emotionally mature blonde who sees in him the true writer that he is. I just don't believe she'd want to give him that much time. She's been through divorce and is ready to move on to something better. It would be a long friggin' road with that guy.

I see some truth in this. And the lies that lead into more lies... and in the end... (when he drops his so called 'friend' home) it seemingly continues... True to life... in many ways... more than not...
