DAMN!!! I HAVE BEEN STUNG BIG TIME!!!! 
Over the Christmas and New Years Holidays I had huge computer problems and one of the causes was lack of storage space in my system, anyway,I installed a computer file storage programme called XDrive, which was either sent 2 me by a freind through Yahoo or MSN, or I found this program on www.downloads.com. Anyway during the installation process I was asked for my Credit Card Number for "Security" reasons, then I could continue with the installation of this programme!! I couldnt continue with the installation otherwise if I didnt give them my Credit Card Number!! The thing is I installed the Free Trial anyway!! Well, fast forward 2 a month ago and a computer expert freind of mine locally installed a completely new computer system, so this XDrive program was wiped off my old system, so I never used it, even before this new system was installed and not even afterwards either!! Well, this morning our latest Credit Card Bill came in the mail and 2 my shock and horror this Programme was listed!!! Apparently I paid these people $99 or £54 for this programme that I have never used!! I immediately sent them an email requesting that they delete me from their system and 2 cease taking anymore payments from me, otherwise I was gonna seek Legal Action with an International Internet Lawyer!! These people never even sent me an email telling me that the free trial was over and that they were gonna now extract a payment from me!! 
The thing is, am I obligated 2 pay this or not??? [Edited 2/21/05 3:58am] | |

That's bad Roz.  I think u'll just have to suck it up. I had something similar happen to me once with AOL. I was living in a student house and signed up for the free trial. Many things happened in my life and I ended up out here in Thailand and forgot about canceling. I don't get my mailed bank statements out here, and only used to briefly check my statement online. Should've seen it, but somehow it escaped my notice for 6 months. All the while my old housemates got free internet. I find it hard to believe that they never thought about how they were getting free internet. Bloody students!

Well, in my defense, I had just told my housemates (and good friends), out of the blue, that I wasn't going to continue my second year of study, was moving out, and to Thailand of all places! I suddenly had to find someone to move in to take my place very swiftly, and nobody that came around to look was apparently suitable for the others, much to my chagrin. It was quite a stressful time. After that I was trying to get used to living in Thailand. | |

Call your credit card company and let them know what happened. Tell them you dont want to pay it. If they won't work with you, pay the bill and cancel the card. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on | |

[Edited 2/21/05 3:58am] I bet your one of these types that just skips past the User Agreement screen, can't be bothered to read that she says especially the bit where it states "If you do not cancel before the end of your trial period we will charge £xx for continued use" If perhaps you were less obsessed with getting stuff for free you might have noticed this and saved yourself £54..as the saying goes "what goes around comes around" You are unbelievable.,..again blaming everyone else except yourself [Edited 2/21/05 6:27am] [Edited 2/21/05 6:28am] | |

I wouldnt do that if i were you - if you cancel it you may never get another, and as you have posted before visa electron doesnt get you far. Just accept this as another lesson in your continuing stupidity - and long may it continue!!!!  | |
