Donnie Darko Fans... If you’re a fan of “Donnie Darko” and its director Richard Kelly, go to this site…it’s the official site for his next movie, “Southland Tales”:
http://www.southlandtales.com/ The movie is supposed to be about a heatwave in southern California that takes place during the three days before the 4th of July…but anyone who saw “Donnie Darko” knows that summarizing that film with a sentence or two doesn’t come close to explaining what it’s really about and what really happens. I’m assuming this movie is very much similar, especially after seeing the site…its much like the site for “Donnie Darko,” full of haunting music and images & phrases hinting at something disturbing and very real taking place during those supposedly ordinary three days. (make sure your speakers are on…the music is a must) What I’m trying to figure out is what the hell the movie is about…the answers are definitely there within the site, but just takes some sleuthing and analysis (again, like the DD website). If you know any physics, it might help as well…lol…(there’s something on there about “excitation mechanisms”)…the only thing I know of the film is what Kelly himself said about it: “Don't judge a book by it's cover. Get ready for some surprises. Keep an open mind. Trust me. I won't disappoint you. You have no idea.” Any thoughts??

Ok, when getting to the screen that says "Two Roads Diverge" and has the flag divided into two, with "Left" and "Right" beneath each half, it says "Choose A Road"...if you put your mouse over the "Left" (democrats?) side, a picture of I believe Karl Marx appears in the background...and if you put your mouse over the "Right" (republicans?) side, an image appears there...but I can't tell who it is...(??? )
The Left "road" is spookier at this point, tho...

I heard the DVD's for this film are made in sweatshops. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Ok, I'm starting to get the idea that this movie might (partially) be about the earth's rotation being altered because of some small, human "excitation mechanism" taking place...causing the earth to start moving closer and closer towards the sun (just because of some quick research on what "excitation mechanisms" are)...which would explain the heatwave...

and most likely "time" alteration.... When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

and most likely "time" alteration.... Yeah, I got that impression as well... ...the whole thing seems like a movie about society on the brink of anarchy, while the earth is on the brink of something major that nobody realizes...Hopefully I'm close..lol

Thanks for the link Byron! You were the one who initially turned me on to Donnie Darko, so its fitting that you're hipping me to this one! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405336/ Assemble now, or else This is either gonna be really great or really bad. Well, Richard Kelly described the movie as "30% comedy, 30% thriller, 30% musical, 10% sci fi"...but at the same time, he described Donnie Darko as "10% sci fi", and you know how that turned out...lol Here's what Kevin Smith had to say about "Southland Tales": DN: SOUTHLAND TALES. KS: Mm-hmm. DN: Have you started that yet? KS: No, but Richard [Kelly, the writer/director] just showed me some storyboards; he sent them to me by e-mail. I guess he's got his financing and his cast almost completely locked. I mean, he had the BUFFY chick cast in the movie and THE GRUDGE opened and it did really well – so now he looks like a fuckin’ genius. He says we'll probably start March or April. DN: You still planning to sing and dance in it…? KS: I’m not one of the singers and dancers. After having read that script, I just don’t understand why people keep saying it’s a musical. There is a musical number in it, definitely. DN: But you’re not in that? KS: No, I don't think so, unless he recently rewrote it. He's a really sweet guy. Real talented dude. That movie is going to be great, it's a really great script. He also said this: "While Kevin didn't reveal much about Southland Tales, he did say that Richard sent him the script, and it completely blew his mind. He said it was a sort of combination of elements from 'Pulp Fiction,' 'The Player,' and 'Magnolia' (only the good parts of it), that is still nonetheless a Richard Kelly script. He described it as a sprawling epic that he cannot wait for people to see. He also added that Richard wants to completely change Kevin's look for the film. He wants him to lose fifty pounds, shave his head, and his beard. Kevin said that there was no hope on the fifty pounds, and since he is already going bald, he doesn't want to hasten the process by shaving his noggin."
