Prosecutor: Cosby Won't Face Charges By MARYCLAIRE DALE, Associated Press Writer
PHILADELPHIA - Bill Cosby (news) will not face charges stemming from a woman's allegation he drugged and fondled her a year ago at his suburban mansion, a prosecutor said Thursday. AP Photo Slideshow: Bill Cosby "The District Attorney finds insufficient credible and admissible evidence ... upon which any charge against Mr. Cosby could be sustained beyond a reasonable doubt," Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor said in a statement. A former Temple University employee, who now lives in her native Ontario, Canada, went to Canadian authorities Jan. 13, contending that Cosby drugged her, then fondled her at his Cheltenham Township home after a dinner out with friends in January 2004. She said she later awoke to find her bra undone and her clothes in disarray. Cosby has denied her allegations. Castor has previously said that the accuser's yearlong delay in coming forward, and their contact in the past year, weighed in the comedian's favor. Castor said he had also reviewed claims by other people that Cosby had "behaved inappropriately with them" but that detectives could find "no instance in Mr. Cosby's past where anyone complained to law enforcement of conduct which would constitute a criminal offense." The woman's attorney blasted Castor for failing to notify her before announcing his decision. "I think this is so disrespectful. We have a law in Pennsylvania that he's supposed to notify crime victims. I don't understand why he would do it in this manner," said the woman's attorney, Dolores M. Troiani. | |
