A few days ago some of you were talking about "Boy meets world". I have to admit I prefered the Wonder Years as a kid. The only series I've ever stayed home for. Oh god, I wanted to be as beautiful as Winnie.

I had a crush on her then and I still did when she showed up on the West Wing a few years ago.

Actress Danica McKellar is more intelligent than most of her characters

Wonder Years" star Danica McKellar grew up to be as smart -- or smarter -- than the characters she plays. She has the paper to prove it.

McKellar has built a career of portraying intelligent women, from Elsie on "The West Wing" to a computer whiz on a recent episode of "NCIS." She's also a college student in today's episode of "Jack & Bobby." And she plays a reporter who has discovered the world is in danger on "Stratosphere," airing in April on the Sci Fi Channel. Then there's her upcoming appearance on "NYPD Blue."

McKellar, a 30-year-old native of La Jolla, Calif., graduated from the University of California-Los Angeles in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She and UCLA professor Lincoln Chayes and student Brandy Winn published a paper in Britain's Journal of Physics A: Mathematics & General called "Percolation and Gibbs State Multiplicity for Ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller Models in Two Dimensions."

Not exactly light reading.

McKellar said it could take some time before a practical application is found for the theorem. But she enjoyed the experience of doing it.

"It is a brain sharpener. I've always liked math. I never imagined I would be a math major," she says, " ... And I relished the idea of being 'normal' for a while."

After studying math, McKellar went back to acting, but couldn't give up math entirely. She continues to answers viewers' math questions at www.DanicaMcKellar.com. And on TV, her roles continue to measure up to her intelligence.

"I really enjoy playing smart people," McKellar says. "People say any good actress can play any role, but there's something called the essence of what you are. It exudes from you; it's so ingrained."

When she played Winnie Cooper on "The Wonder Years," the 1988-93 comedy set in the 1960s, McKellar didn't neglect her studies. "My main focus was to get all my schoolwork done."

Her career continues to do well. "I'm very excited. I just found out I'm on the March 1 [series] finale of 'NYPD Blue.' They asked, 'Can you come in Feb. 9?' I said, 'Yeah, I'll be there.' "

On "Jack & Bobby," McKellar plays a college student who sits on an ethics committee that reviews professor Grace McCallister (Christine Lahti) after she violates a policy she helped to create. "My character was a huge fan of her. It seems at first that I would be pulling for her," McKellar says, but noted her character disapproves of what the professor did.

"Jack & Bobby" executive producer Thomas Schlamme, Lahti's husband, was one of the "West Wing" executive producers when McKellar played Elsie Snuffin, the sister of Will Bailey (Joshua Malina).

I always liked that show except for the narrator

I've read this article on Winnie too. What a clever girl ! That's why I decided to put a picture of her in this thread. She looks like a math-nerd in the pic.

haha i remember for a bit thinking the rumor was true.....that the boy with the glasses was really M. Manson.
