I've joined a sushi club!

Actually, I helped coordinate a sushi club. Since I have so many veggie friends the meat eaters in my social circle apparently have to create special appointments and clubs and things when we wanna go to non-veggie friendly restaurants. Friday is our first official foray into the world of Mpls sushi. It's gonna be yummy and fun!

Case

Sushi is one of my all-time favorite foods. I LOVED it when I was a kid and yet I hated hamburgers. My mother was VERY confused that I preferred raw octopus and tuna to ground round. There's a GREAT sushi bar in Royal Oak, Mich. called The Little Tree. They make the best damned sushi in the world...

I'm looking to expand my sushi horizons. I usually get the "safe" stuff, like california rolls and tuna and things, but I wanna branch out. I'll be eating with some much more experienced sushi eaters than myself, so I get to rely on their fabulous taste. It's gonna be fun. smile

I saw a classified ad for a sushi club but it seemed a little fishy so I decided against it.

Not all of it. Some of it is cooked. Or smoked. And there's rice and seaweed and wasabi and pickled ginger... drool

I'm pretty sure I've had unagi, but I don't remember if I liked it or not. Thing is, I'm REALLY picky when it comes to fish, even cooked. And being nowhere near an ocean you have to pick and choose your sushi restaurants very carefully to ensure freshness. So that's kinda why I've always shyed away from the unfamiliar. But I'm busting out of that right now!

Sushi in the Bay Area is da bomb diggity! woot!

My great-uncle is 100% Japanese (DOOK = 1/4 Japnese) and we used to have home made sushi when I was really really young (although I didn't eat much of it).

The first time I had sushi was in San Francisco. biggrin I even still have a pic of me somewhere with the beautiful plate before me with all the different rolls and my chopsticks. lol

And friends of mine make fabulous sushi as they know the right fish shops to go to. But they ususally just buy one filet or whatever and it's enough to feed several of us so it's more fun to go out sometimes for the variety.

Favorite sushi dishes: All the rolls (California, etc.), octopus, crap, shrimp heads (yum), eel, tuna, giant clam (which looks EXACTLY like a clitoris!), yellow fin tuna.

Least favorite: Sea urchin (tastes like dirt merangue), squid, shrimp (too slimy)

I can do SOME..rolls and what not. Since I work at the O2 Sushi and Sake bar...I suppose I gotta like it a little.
