A 2-disc set of the Director's Cut of "Donnie Darko" comes out next Tuesday (Feb. 15). Who else is planning on getting a copy?

Also, are there any fans who prefer the original cut to the Director's Cut? My co-worker and I are battling this out rather viciously...

Not a bad movie, but I just cannot be arsed with the discussions and shit. Good movie though.....

i saw the director's cut on screen in NYC last fall...i liked it, and it was my BF's first time seeing it and he was able to "get" it better than i was the first time i saw the original cut...but then again, i had lots of fun trying to figure out the movie, and now, it's spelled out for ya a little bit more. though not much...

I'm giving my old copy to a friend of mine. One thing I didn't like about the Director Cut was that Richard Kelly changed the music around. I preferred the Echo and the Bunnymen song that plays in the beginning to that INXS song.

This movie is almost like a fictional "What the Bleep Do We Know?" It makes you think about time, quantum physics and all that deep stuff.

I got the movie last year for x-mas, though I have no idea why as I wasn't a big fan of the movie (anyone else have a BF that buys you things they really want?). I mean I liked it...but it's not one I have gone back to.

I'll probably get it for Valentines day...if I get anything at all.

What's the big fucking deal about this movie?

I got mine here in Aus a week ago.

It is one of the best movies of the past decade, IMHO.

Never seen the director's cut, but I've heard it omits some good stuff from the first cut. Does the DVD have both versions, or is it exclusively the Director's cut and extras?

The song they were supposed to use for the Sparklemotion scene was "West End Girls" but they couldn't get the rights. So they went with "Notorious." And no, it's still in there in the Director's Cut.

Example: In the opening scene when Donnie is riding his bike back from the golf course, the song in the original cut was "The Cutter" by Echo and the Bunnymen. In the Director's Cut, it's a song from INXS. I'm not sure why Kelly did that; I thought the Echo song worked better.

yes it was. the killing moon later pops up in place of the church's "under the milky way tonight". in my opinion inxs' "never tear us apart" is much more apt song. the director's cut kicks ass over the original, although it must be said that there aren't too many noticable changes.

People think this is the greatest movie ever...I didn't hate it, but they stroke you with a bunch of great concepts that never make you come.

Get a grip people! If you want to learn about some deep shit, go to the source, not some hollywood flick!

And no, "DD" is not the greatest movie in the world; "Anal Rampage Vol. 12" takes that honor. But the fact that this movie got TEENAGERS thinking about quantum physics and the nature of reality is an incredible feat.

I just loved it because it was damn entertaining, it made me fluctuate back and forth between "He's a paranoid schizophrenic" and "These things really ARE happening", the acting was almost completely astounding (especially Mary McDonnell or however it's spelled...she was Oscar worthy, easily), it was funny as shit while at the same time disturbing...and on and on...too many things about this movie are praise-worthy.

notorious is such a strange song to have little girls dancing to. they should have been dancing to lucky star or material girl or some song that little girls would actually dance to in a recital. i know that wouldn't have fit in with the rest of the movie and really, it;s besides the point but that part always bothered me.

other than that, i really enjoyed the movie. i'd watch the dvd at a friend's house but i don;t know if i would buy it.

I always took the use of "Notorious" as a subconscious commentary on the fact that Patrick Swayze's character was just about to become "notorious" for his illegal acts...the result of Donnie's burning down his house as the little girls danced to that very song..
