What to cook a meat eating man? Since I'm a vegetarian I was wondering what I could cook
to seduce a guy I want to invite over for dinner (he's a carnivore) Maybe we should just go out? HELP! | |

Hahahaha you should make something with GardenBurger (pasta with meatballs?) and let him think it's meat then after he eats it and likes it tell him what it is.

Ex-Moderator | Going out probably works best, but if you really wanna cook I'd just make your own favorite meal. If you're a veggie and he can't appreciate one meal without some kind of carcass it's probably not meant to be anyway. |

I have a great pasta recipe that you can make with or without meatballs or with veg meatballs-
Make some pasta from a box using the instructions on the box (whole wheat pasta is great- it tastes the same and is healthier), usually you can microwave it so it’s easy. After that or at the same time, put some stuff into an oiled pan (I usually end up using 3 tablespoons or something like that because of the psauce that's going to be added to the pan) like big pieces of chopped onion or tomato or mushroom whatever you like (I usually do half an onion) and cook at medium to medium-high heat until it looks almost the way you want to eat it. I do the onions until they’re just starting to get brown a little. You definitely want them to be more see-through and softened. If you want to make it healthier add some ( about 4 cloves) chopped up peeled fresh garlic cloves right before the onions are done and let them cook for about 2 minutes- until the garlic is just starting to get brown. It'll mellow as it cooks. Then add some marinara of your choice- I like Prego with mushrooms- Prego doesn't tend to be too sugary like other brands. Cook the sauce over medium heat stirring frequently until it’s darker red, and thicker (this makes the tomato sauce tastier and healthier when the tomato antioxidants cook). Remove from heat. Add cooked meatballs if you like. Add the cooked pasta and stir until the pasta is coated with sauce. Sprinkle some shredded mozzarella or a cheddar-mozzarella mix on top and stick under the broiler with the door open until the cheese is melted and brown in some spots. Ratatouille
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1 large onion, halved and thinly sliced 1 small eggplant, cubed 2 medium-size green peppers, coarsely chopped 4 large tomatoes, coarsely chopped 3 small to medium-size zucchini, cut into 1/4-inch slices 1 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley Directions: In a 4-quart pot, heat oil. Add garlic and onions and cook until soft, about 7 minutes. Add eggplant and stir until coated with oil. Add peppers and stir in well. Cover pot and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep the vegetables from sticking. Add tomatoes, zucchini, and herbs; mix well. Cover and cook over low heat about 15 to 20 minutes, or until eggplant is tender, but not mushy. Serve hot or chill and use as a condiment, if desired. Serves 4. | |

That sounds yummy
It reminds me of this great recipe for Eggplant Parmesan.. Has a 5-star rating. It's delicious and healthier than regular Eggplant Parmesan because you bake it. from http://vegetarian.allreci...rmsnII.asp INGREDIENTS: 3 eggplant, peeled and thinly sliced 2 eggs, beaten 4 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs 6 cups spaghetti sauce, divided 1 (16 ounce) package mozzarella cheese, shredded and divided 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided 1/2 teaspoon dried basil DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Dip eggplant slices in egg, then in bread crumbs. Place in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes on each side. In a 9x13 inch baking dish spread spaghetti sauce to cover the bottom. Place a layer of eggplant slices in the sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat with remaining ingredients, ending with the cheeses. Sprinkle basil on top. Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until golden brown. | |

Don't try to use any kind of veggie burgers or other kind of meat substitutes. they never taste the same, and if you try and make him believe it's meat, he'll just think you're a bad cook.
Make him a vegetarian meal, so that way he'll know you're a vegetarian, and will also enjoy a nice meal, knowing it's got no meat in it. Or just cook with your top off, he'll appreciate it more than meat [Edited 2/11/05 14:25pm] | |

i date a carnivore, but i've found that as long as i'm not a complete obnoxious nazi about it, he's very happy to eat and cook veggie dishes - when he's with his friends, he can go eat his pork stuffed veal breasts or whatever, and even when we go out to eat i don't care if he eats meat - but there are tons of things without meat that can be cooked that don't scream out "VEGETARIAN FOOD!!!" - pasta, lots of middle eastern dishes, lots of mexican dishes, chinese dishes... | |

Yah, I always find pasta to be the most familiar thing to serve omni folks. I've been known to put veggie "meat"balls on the side and let them decide if they want to try them.
Taco bar is a good bet too. Along with the usual toppings, you can have black beans and some of the Ground Round veggie crumble stuff; if they are afraid of "fake meat", they can go with the beans. Of course, tacos are messy and beans come with their own romance issues, if that's what you're going for. | |

Believe it or not, it is real beef. All except for that McLean burger they had a few years back. That had seaweed extract in it to keep the thing from crumbling apart. | |
