Best Picture
The Aviator - Sandy Climan, Charles Evans Jr., Graham King, Michael Mann
Finding Neverland - Nellie Bellflower, Richard N. Gladstein
Million Dollar Baby - Clint Eastwood, Paul Haggis, Tom Rosenberg, Albert S. Ruddy
Ray - Howard Baldwin, Karen Elise Baldwin, Stuart Benjamin, Taylor Hackford
Sideways - Michael London

Best Director
Clint Eastwood - Million Dollar Baby
Taylor Hackford - Ray
Mike Leigh - Vera Drake
Alexander Payne - Sideways
Martin Scorsese - The Aviator

I predict a Chicago/Roman Polanski-style split, here. Best Director will go to the director of the more worthy film, and Best Picture will go to the one with the most cash behind it. For some reason, the Academy just does not like Scorcese, and Eastwood has won both the Golden Globe and the Director's Guild Award (a surprise). He must win at least one award for his Chaplinesque writing, directing, acting, and composing, and somehow I think this will be it..

Best Actor
Don Cheadle - Hotel Rwanda
Johnny Depp - Finding Neverland
Leonardo DiCaprio - The Aviator
Clint Eastwood - Million Dollar Baby
Jamie Foxx - Ray

This is too obvious to comment on.

Best Actress
Annette Bening - Being Julia
Catalina Sandino Moreno - Maria Full of Grace
Imelda Staunton - Vera Drake
Hilary Swank - Million Dollar Baby
Kate Winslet - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

They really really like Ms. Swank, and she is spectacular in the film. It is not Bening's time, and I don't think she'll win for playing a boring woman in a boring period piece. Swank has the additional advantage of having her film playing in wide release right now. It is the showier role, and I think they like her enough to give her a second Oscar.

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Alda - The Aviator
Thomas Haden Church - Sideways
Jamie Foxx - Collateral
Morgan Freeman - Million Dollar Baby
Clive Owen - Closer

The tide has shifted from Thomas Haden Church to Morgan Freeman. Good.

Best Supporting Actress
Cate Blanchett - The Aviator
Laura Linney - Kinsey
Virginia Madsen - Sideways
Sophie Okonedo - Hotel Rwanda
Natalie Portman - Closer

They owe her. Ms. Portman is liked by the HFPA, but I don't think she'll win this time out, especially not for a film with a surprising lack of nominations. Cate has the Elizabeth debt AND the front-runner for best picture going for her.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Before Sunset - Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke, Richard Linklater
Finding Neverland - David Magee
Million Dollar Baby - Paul Haggis
The Motorcycle Diaries - Jose Rivera
Sideways - Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor

You can bet your life savings on this one.

Best Original Screenplay
The Aviator - John Logan
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Charlie Kaufman
Hotel Rwanda - Terry George, Keir Pearson
The Incredibles - Brad Bird
Vera Drake - Mike Leigh

A minor sweep by The Aviator will help this.

Is it the Oscar awards or the Academy Awards...or is it the Academy that gives out the Oscars? You see I don't take stock in ANY of this pre-concieved bullshit!! evillol

And that goes for the Grammy's too!! It's ALL about $$$$, and hardly ever about talent.

Best Picture - Million Dollar Baby, but I have not seen it yet to give it a proper review.

Best Actor - Jamie Foxx unless they have a real blast of boldness and give it to Don Cheadle, I would not be upset by either choice.

Best Actress - Hilary Swank, said with a big caution since I haven't seen any movie of those nominated. She's has the Tom Brady curse, blessed with too much success at a young age.

Best Supporting Actor - Thomas Hayden Church as the surprise upset over the more than deserving Morgan Freeman, if they actually do this I'll scream. mad

Best Supporting Actress - I don't know nor do I care, sorry to all concerned.

As for the rest of the categories, we'll just wait and see.

you know what? i think the supporting actor raise might be the suprise award too.....when i did my list i assumed the Best Actress Award would be the upset win and i banked on beigning doing it...but, more and more it looks like Swank has it.....and if thats the case then Supporting Actor might be the one category voters go crazy with.....i read a good essay on why alan alda will win...i guess he has a history of always winning awards...so who knows...Freeman better get it!! lol...

back to Oscar..What he hell is up with this?

Some winners will not go on stage to pick up their awards - while in other categories, all five nominees will get on stage before being told who has won.

The traditional system where the winner walks up to the podium after their name is read out will also still be used.

The changes were announced at Monday's Nominees Luncheon, where 115 nominees met three weeks before the ceremony.

Oscars ceremony producer Gil Cates said the changes would "get more of the nominees seen on television".

For some awards, nominees will sit together in the auditorium while a presenter goes among them to announce the winner and hand over the statuette.

For others, the nominees will be in the spotlight together on stage as one of them is named winner.

Stupid! I'm betting it's some of the "lesser" awards like sound, sound effects editing, etc. Let each winner have their moment.

This is the face of censorship!!

When Futterman — the decency-delay maven — took her turn at the mike, Cates and Horvitz didn't delay in unleashing a few choice expletives, prompting laughter from the very unoffended group.

Actually, Futterman's title is director of broadcast standards and practices for ABC. Her job? Make sure nothing offensive — especially from salty first-time host Chris Rock — goes out over the air during the Oscar telecast.

"I've really been trying to figure out whether after 28 years I should just resign today or wait to be fired the morning after," Futterman told the group. "Because I figured the only way I'm going to keep my job for 30 years is for Chris to develop laryngitis."

"No, wait to resign," Cates said, triggering another outburst of laughter.

okay..im changing a couple picks..

I now think Million Dollar Baby will win Best Picture but Director *will* go to Scorsese...

Miramax has done something inspiring...They have released "for your consideration" ads using the music from Raging Bull...its genious!! it is reminding voters of the fact that Scorsese was grossly overlooked for that film...Couple that with the obvious directing errors that Eastwood made for Million Dollar Baby and its Scorsese's award finally.....

and if MDB wins then I hate to say this...Swank will win too..

NO!! bawl
