Does anyone know what the heck a "loppet" is?

Apparently it's a cross-country ski race. And apparently they've decided to have one right through Uptown tomorrow! They are going to close the streets and fill them with snow.
And it's supposed to be 52 degrees F and sunny tomorrow. I had hoped to spend the day walkin round my neighborhood enjoying the gorgeous weather and instead there will be cross-country skiers everywhwere and snow melting all over the place.

Why can't these crazy winter-sports types just stick to the trails and ski resorts? Why must they cover Uptown in more snow???

mad

No, seriously, a "loppet" is the reaction one has in Australia when it rains and your roof starts leaking costing you upwards of $4,000.

ex: "Man, he threw a loppet when he heard the news."

There isn't any snow on the trails either smile The best part about 52 degrees and snow is you can ski in shirt sleeves (check out the cover of the Pioneer Press today) I don't cross country ski but I think it sounds pretty cool to ski through the city and I think this race is a big deal and they get in a lot of out-of-towners and make quite a few bucks for the city.

oh, sure! Bring up all the positives.

I just want a quiet, peaceful Saturday in Uptown now that the weather's nice. Who knows long it will last. Next week it may be below 0 again.
Is that too much to ask???

A "loppet" is a new kind of emoticon used solely regarding Hands.

ex:

Hands: "2the9s, Chut it!"

2the9s: ":loppet:"

smile

"ett lopp" means "a race"... "loppet" means "the race". It's Swedish, why would you have it in Swedish? confuse
