Someone told me that I have OCD

A friend of mine saty me down last night. He told me I had a serious problem. He told me that I keep my home too clean, everything has its place, my entire home is neat and organized.

I told him, "it's called neatness not OCD."
He disagreed with me, "you need to get help -- your just too organized"

He actually took issue and was upset that I am a clean person. During our conversation he actually raised his vioce a few times. So, I asked him too leave. I will never speak to him again.

I could not believe that someone would get that mad over a trait that I think is a positive one?

I don't get it, I take pride in my home, but sometimes I do clean too much.

Are you a neat freak, do people get get upset about it?

i think there's a difference between having OCD and being organized. i used to be a big ol' slob until i moved in to my own apartment, and now i'm a complete neat freak. everything is in its place, and i stress out when i'm too busy to clean up every day. it just makes me feel better to come home from a crappy day at work and walk into a well put-together and clean apartment. it makes a difference.

also, i think what maya angelou said is true: there's no way you can have what it takes to change the world if you can't at least make your bed every morning (paraphrased miserably, i'm sure). i take that to heart - i have a rule that if i don't get anything else done in a given day, at least i made my damn bed in the morning.

hmmm I think to be able to assess this situation properly, you need to spend the day at my house nod

Only after 5 or 6 hours of watching you make my house sparkle will I be able to pass judgement smile

That is exactly what I told my friend last night and he told me that I shouldn't think that way.

My appartment is like hair. If I leave it un-kempt for long enough, then the natural decay of rats faeces and goat carcasses starts to clean itself confused

all's ya gotta do is go room by room. get rid of stuff you don't want or need, straighten the stuff that's left over, then get out the cleaning supplies and wipe the dust off yer surfaces and clean the floors. and when ya clean out your closets, don't be afraid of making a mess. ya can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs. there ya go.

1. Throw out things that have no use to you.
2. Sort through things that you have not used in 6 months, donate them to charity

Usually, the people who call me OCD Neat freak are the type of people who have not cleaned their bathtub and toilet for over a year.

I love Homer. He would never be OCD neat freak... but I think Marge is.

Maybe your friend is OCD, and is fixated on your cleanliness vs. his lack thereof.

Some of my friends are complete slobs. Their idea of doing laundry is spraying their clothes with Febreeze. Their apartments look like a cave, with junk piled everywhere, the place reeks, filthy carpets, the dust is so thick on the shelves you can't even tell what color they really are, and don't get me started on the bathrooms.

There's nothing wrong with keeping a clean place. If anything, its admirable and can set a good example for others.
