I get almost all of my clothes professionally tailored. I have a neighborhood tailor who doesn't cahrge an arm and a leg for the alterations. I get everything professionally tailored and altered because everything looks so much better when it's cut to fit your body. It really does look as if they were made to fit you, because, they are, in a sense if you get them tailored. It's well worth the expense if you're not getting ripped off (shop around for tailors). You'll get years of enjoying wearing clothes that fit you well and that you look good in.

yeah, i get the idea that i'm going to have to find a tailor that i'll go to regularly if i want "deals" on this kind of stuff. or maybe i'll just teach my damn self how to hem pants.

Dry cleaner tailors are generally expensive.

Best to find someone who does it professionally. Usually cheaper.

I had a suit altered.. Hemmed, and sleeves taken up a bit.. Cost me 10 bucks..

Pretty reasonable.

If it's only hemming you need done, it's not that hard to do. You'll just need someone to pin them at the length you want them. If you keep sewing you'll get better, I promise. I do some minor repair sewing myself. I'm good at little repairs now.

I only have stuff professionally altered if i have paid a lot of money for a dress or a pair of pants.. I once bought a pair of pants for $150.00 and my mom (i thought knew how to hem)... started to take them up and ruined them on me! (she tried, i didn't get mad) Since then i take my clothes to be professionally done!

That is all I can say, some kind of polymer material that comes like a roll of tape you put between the folds of your hem and iron it. Perfect hem! IT's MAGIC!

It works for hems and such but it can come loose/unglued and might melt and become slightly puckered or disfigured during drycleaning. It's better to use thread - you know it will last.
