I'm not that much of an aficionado, what do you mean by the second cast? Who was in that? They overhauled it...and brought on Eddie Murphy & Mary Gross (I forget the rest ...brad hall...maybe jim belushi). I think that the original cast was on for a few years and then the the second round went for a few years. I can recall vividly the episode where Buckwheat got shot. Hilarious like cancer. It was perodied after JFK's shooting. See they did parodies..but twisted them all up. [Edited 1/31/05 16:18pm] Christian Zombie Vampires

I just need to say that Tina Fey is hilarious, Keenan is terribly underutilized and Seth Meyer is a hottie.
Other than that, SNL sucks... as it has for years. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Other than that, SNL sucks... as it has for years. Yup on Tina Fey; Keenan will come into his own. And Amy Poehler is really good. The chemistry between her and Seth is good. Horatio seems to have had less to do since Fallon left. Those two were good together. And let me again praise the virtues and hilarity of that skit with Amy and Horation where she plays the hyperactive young girl and is always saying "Rick! Rick! Rick!" That shit cracks me the hell up. Oh my god I forgot Maya!! She's talented! And Chris Parnell! Those raps he does! [Edited 1/31/05 18:11pm] [Edited 1/31/05 18:14pm]

WHat's this I hear about Endangered Feces...I have never heard of such a thing! oh nevermind! Gilda! Gilda in any form-Emily Litella or otherwise is definitely missed. i miss her. i loved when she played that little girl that would jump in her bed and her mom would ask her what she's doing and she'd say"nothing" or something like that...but it was funny. i was little then but my parents would let me stay up and watch it with them.

omg, yes, sticky... that is roll on the floor funny. i enjoy it for the most part... i think people who say SNL sucks now forget that it has always had skits that didn't work. i never seem to appreciate a cast member until they are gone... then i miss them like crazy yes, i would like more political satire... but the show reflects the makeup of the cast.

I just don't get Belushi, Radner, and Chase. I didn't think they were funny at all. Maybe because what they were doing was new or different? Not that I'm praising the new seasons, but hasn't it always been pretty much this level? It's not like when they did more political stuff it was incredibly cutting edge or biting. I don't get that era either Maybe it's all about when you come into it - my first SNL experience was in the Eddie Murphy days. Those days were hilarious in my eyes, then it kinda died, then got funny again w/ Mike Myers, Dana Carvy... died a little... then was good again w/ Cheri Oteri, Will Farrell, Anna Gastyer (sp?), Chris Kattan & Molly Shannon... died a little... Now Fallon is gone... I guess it always dies a little when somebody leaves & the other cast members have to fill those holes. I do like Keenan a lot, Maya Rudulph is great, so are Amy Poehler & Rachel Dratch. Fred Armisand (sp?) is pretty good sometimes. I hope it comes back to life. They need better hosts, quit w/ the parade of untalented idiots... . [Edited 1/31/05 20:21pm]

I have no problems with SNL.
I like all the cast, especially Amy Poehler,Rachel Dratch,Mya,Horatio,Chris Armisen, and Darrel Hammond (he's like Phil Hartman where he can impersonate anyone). As long as they make me laugh every week then that's all I need. Also the "DEBBIE DOWNER" skit they did with Lindsay Lohan where they had a family renuion at Disney Wolrd was funny as hell! They were all cracking up and the audience cheered them on when they could get their sentences through. [Edited 2/1/05 2:43am] My name is BISCUIT...and I am funky!

They could compose themselves and where laghing at their own skits. Back in the day, in the seventies, that just wouldn't happen!

Other than that, SNL sucks... as it has for years. do you think tina fey is as funny now as she was in previous years? Good question.... Although I DESPISE Jimmy Fallon, I do think Tina's chemistry with him was better than hers and Amy Poehler's (who, I think, is WAY funnier than Fallon). I think Tina and Amy just need a little more time to learn to complement each other's style. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I just always felt more that back in the day (even in 1992, when it was all about Spade, Sandler, Farely, Hartman, etc.) it was much more professional and much funnier.

Maya is one of the few reasons I still watch SNL. Maya is good but if she were gone tommorrow, I wouldn't blink. I feel that way about most of the members, including Faye, Pohler, Meyers. Parnell isn't bad but as Bush he sucked out loud! Hammond and Hartio Sanz (?) are the only keepers, if you ask me. Maybe Kennan, too.

remember when gilda radner did her patti smith impersonation? that was shit hot. there was no real "joke" to it other than just her impersonation (from what i remember, anyway), and i'm sure a lot of people watching weren't even aware of who patti smith WAS at the time...it was just one of those "WTF?!?" moments that made the old SNL so cool. like the blues brothers. there was no real "context" to those bits other than belushi and aykroyd wanted to play songs and look cool doing it. SNL doesn't do that kinda stuff anymore - there's no surprises or spontaneity to the show like there used to be. if they ever revived that kind of spectacle to the show, i totally believe it could at least come close to getting its "edge" kinda somewhat back.

You fams have got to read Jay Mohr's book (don't remember the title) about his experiences on SNL. It gives you a really good peek at the goings-ons (kissing up to Lorne Michaels, competition, feuds, celebrity hosts) behind the show.
Great read. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

Anxiety said: you know, as a second city student who sees tons of just grotesquely brilliant and funny people all the time, i find it absolutely CRIMINAL that SNL has sunk to the state it's in today, especially considering they've encountered this kind of creative morass in the past, and they managed to find a way to pull their morass out of the fire, so to speak, by - *GASP!* - hiring funny, fresh, uniquely talented writers and performers! in the early/mid '90s, when will ferrell, cheri oteri, and molly shannon were at their peak on the show, it had come damn close to repeating the glory days of the show - it was irreverent again, and weird, and they could create offbeat, silly humor without having to rely solely on pop culture and current events. the show as it stands now is like a third-rate senior talent show, with little imagination, charm, or desire to take risks. it's really too bad, though i do have hope against hope that it'll reconnect with itself again someday and make with the funny.
hmmm, i'm a second city student too...are you in the chicago program? plus, i agree that some of the best cutting edge improv/sketch humor is still on the stage in theaters around the country ...until it goes to snl and get watered down....i really hate the fact that paris hilton is hosting the next show
