I didn't think it was great but it was a pretty good movie showing the hypocrisy of some of the savers, who only think they are filled with Chirst's love. It had some good laughs in it and I was surprised that actors like Culkin and Moore, who I would usually avoid in movies, managed to do very well in smaller roles, and as ensemble characters, not leads. You don't think it just hit a little to close to home?

Maybe. But you watching this is like an atheist wasting his time with the Left Behind series, no? Like oil and water from the outset.

Like oil and water from the outset. not at all...i can enjoy humour and satire, believe it or not . i'm a huge fan of john waters but his style isn't insulting or malicious, its just goofy fun. i loved "but i'm a cheerleader" for the same reason. "saved" was just insulting on so many levels. there was a very clear message in the film and it was just insulting to me because they relied on using stereotypes to get the message out there.

I liked this film a great deal, especially as right before highs school I moved to an area where the dominant religion was Calvin Christian Reformed. For a while, I attended Young Life and Campaigners meetings, and there were tons of people like this.
As they say, many stereotypes have a grain of truth to them--this is one of them, in my opinion. Mandy Moore was EXCELLENT!!

Mandy Moore was EXCELLENT!! well, i suppose if that mentality is true then many blacks are criminals, many jews are greedy, many muslims are terrorists, many asians are good in math, and so forh and so on. yeah, i'll skip the whole stereotype thing. but if you haven't seen "but i'm a cheerleader", i highly recommend that film! it was much funnier and more clever than this.

"Saved" is a swipe at religious hypocrisy, but not at religion. Contrary to Jerry Falwell's claim, I don't believe that "Saved" is an attempt to make any young Christian to "divorce themselves from their faith." This movie is offering the finger to the hypocrisy that is RAMPANT in the church.
I grew up in a Baptist church all throughout my childhood. The pastor of the first church I went to was embezzling church funds, my youth pastor as a teenager ended up cheating on his wife with a church pianist (and actually got her implants to boot). The so-called "one sided stereotypes" exist, like it or not. This ultra-PC tendancy to pretend that stereotypical people don't exist is ridiculous. Let's face it--Americans LIKE stereotypes. Mandy Moore's character in "Saved" certainly exists--I met several specimans of her throughout my life. Fuck, I DATED a speciman of her. Frank Zappa once said about satire that a person likes it "as long as one of the grenades is not lobbed at their foxhole." In other words, if you're not a born again Christian, you'll probably get the joke and like "Saved." If you fully believe that every word in the Bible is literally true; that God made Eve from Adam's rib, that women are supposed to be subordinate to their husbands, that Solomon truly WAS the wisest man in the world, and that dinosaurs never existed...God bless you. You're entitled to your belief. As far as "Saved" is concerned...those teenagers exist.
