I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the iceberg lettuce of this rich and delicious buffet called earth.

Specifically, I was born in Forest City Hospital, the only Black-owned private Hospital Cleveland has ever had. Our economy tanked, and the hospital went under shortly after I was born. My older sister jokes that I was the reason they tore it down, and that the place is now a big parking lot.

but my father was born in the house i grew up in on the hottest day on record (still) for june (my poor grandmother!)

my mother almost died giving birth to my oldest sibling... she was toxic and no one noticed.
she woke up three days later to find she had a daughter

and my friend was born in the car on the way to the city. her father had just come back from working with the cows and dianne didn't even give him a minute to wash up. those farm hands had to unwrap the cord from her neck.

all my siblings were born in the same hospital - the one in our town of 3000. now the new years baby doesn't show up for weeks because there just aren't that many babies born there, but my sister born on new years day was beaten to the punch by another baby. she was robbed
