a) I'm not badass and do not want a badass tattoo.
b) It would not be "above my ass" it would be in the small of my back. It's a subtle difference but it's about a part of my body I consider one of the most sensual and I think the small of a woman's back is one of the most beautiful parts.

Okay I will explain the meaning behind it.
It has 7 hearts- for love and because I love the song "7" and find it very romantic. The hearts except for the big one are in pairs- romantic meaning. The shape reminds me of the onion shape which is so prominent in India- particularly Indian architecture. When I think of India I think of love, romance, beauty, and a colorful, beautiful world. Maybe I didn't fill it in with exactly the right shade of pink- it would be slightly more pink that my skin, which is very fair. I like how the hearts seem to be in a somewhat upward direction- to the heavens, uplifting. The diamonds would represent 1) the man I am trying to find in love- the one who would be on the other side of the same heart, 2) eyes (the window to the soul) sitting atop rounding cheeks (the top of the big heart), 3) the shape in general is about love, and the diamonds represent the glamour and beauty of love/living from the heart. Having said that, I'm probably just going to paint it on my wall or something.

I think it's beautiful ...BUT having said that be careful what colour you go for - pink is risky as it will fade very very quickly and look like you have just black lines

Thank you but does my explanation make you feel any differently at all? Would a different shade of pink or a different color make a difference to the Barbie look?

I was thinking I would have it regularly filled-in yeah, you could it would get expensive tho as you'd need to do it every 6 months or so at least, I reckon having said that, tho, I could be (and probably am) completely wrong ...as Red said it's all up to you hon go with your heart and make it count - it's there for the rest of your life

I think it would be look better in pink than lilac, personally. If it fades some, so what, it's pink on flesh, it won't look bad. Faded lilac, however, would look kinda bleh. I actually think it would be cool in pink with a darker pink, pinkish brown, or reddish outline, rather than black. Very subtle and unusual
And I'd like it better without the diamonds. Makes me think about love = stuff/materialism in our culture. Since you asked. But it's your body, tattoos shouldn't be designed by committee.

sweetserene said: Natisse said: this one Honestly? Give it to me straight yep...it's a good colour because it won't fade as easily and it's a great design! my last bit of advice is go to a GREAT artist when you have it done - even if it costs more. It's SO worth it go to someone you've heard about before and is reputable...

I'd suggest moving away from such a rounded shape for the hearts - especially the large one would work better more stylised and flaring out to the sides more (IMO). I think this will work better with the placement however it might take away from your "onion" reference, I'd also suggest either having the whole tattoo done as bold outline with no infill to ensure that the design doesn't get lost within the colour - that or have the artist add some depth/contour to the hearts with shading (but I like bold work, personally).
And there's no reason why pink would fade anymore than any other shade as long as you go to a reputable artist and always apply sunscreen when sunbathing. I've got white in my tattoos that is 18 years old and is no more faded than any other colour. Kudos for taking the time to design something meaningful. Y'know, I'd probably choose lilac over pink. I think it would stand out more, and at least IMHO, it's a more interesting color. I've seen some pictures of lilac ink in skin, and I think it looks quite nice. If it fades, well, that's what touch-ups are for. Do follow the sunscreen advice, no matter what color. I actually think it would be cool in pink with a darker pink, pinkish brown, or reddish outline, rather than black. Very subtle and unusual
Some artists refuse to outline in anything other than black. The original poster should be prepared for this objection. Personally, I'd just go to another artist. But it's your body, tattoos shouldn't be designed by committee.

sweetserene said: And what do you think of the small of the back as a location?
I think it's a nice spot. But it is very common, maybe even cliché. Also consider: how visible do you want your tattoo to be? In that spot, it's going to be hidden most of the time, although it will be easy to show people your ink if and when you want to do so. Another placement idea would be to move the tattoo up so that the big heart is on your upper back, and the hearts and diamonds above it are on the back of your neck. This may or may not "work"... if you're interested, I'd suggest having someone sketch the design with a marker (seriously!) so you can get a sense of how it would look. If you do this, I'd recommend sizing the tattoo so that the width of the upper part is the same size as the more-or-less flat spot on your nape. Alternatively, multicolor hearts might look nice if they're done with colors that fade into each other. For this, you'd really want to look through artists' portfolios and find someone who's skilled at color work. Kudos for taking the time to design something meaningful. No offense meant to anyone, but I would never walk into a tattoo studio and pick a design off the wall ("flash"). Custom is the way to go.
