Steven Spielberg Why can't Steven Spielberg make good movies anymore...or at least end them well without getting all cheesy?
OK I just finished the 10 episode sprawling TAKEN. Man, the ending sucked donkey balls. Lots of swooping orchestration...long lingering boo hoo shots. And how long...pray tell does it take for a UFO to suck up someone? The last shots...I swear the UFO's were hovering there for the last goodbye...way way way too long. Now don't get me wrong...it was intrigueing to see this story played out over a few generations, and the mystery and plot were good. But why does Steven put a family friendly, where's my Bucket to puke endings? I think it's time to vow to now see his schlocky movies anymore. I haven't enjoyed them in the past 10 years. I want to...but he just ruins them. Like AI...perfectly good movie until the mom leaves her son in the forest...and then perfectly digestable when he's with Jude Law. Few moments of hokey here and there...but still palatable. WHere he loses me is with the endings. The first one...erm ok. The second one...blue fairy...this is where the movie ends!!! That last lil bit with the aliens and the mom and all that crap It ends at the blue fairy. Dark, depressing, and not what is expected. DONE. but NOOOO lets bring the mom back and add aliens and an underwater city etc and have a crappy ending. I'll give Steven 1 allocade in the past decade...Shindlers List. Great Movie...been talked about to DEATH...but all in all a great movie. Christian Zombie Vampires

I think Spielberg's been replaced in that department by JJ Abrams.

Hoo...one more Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg collaboration...I think I'll kill myself. Or just eat a chocolate bar...whichever is easiest at the time. Is it me or is Tom spiraling into the Robin Williams world of schlokyness? Well at least Robin is doing other movies now-a-days. Christian Zombie Vampires

I've had so enough of Hanks.....I was shocked to find out they cast him for the lead in 'The Da Vinci Code'.....

I'd rather wait for the "true to the book" movie set in 1898 England (the year the book was written and was set in...) instead of Spielberg's "Americanized" or "Hollywoodified" version... Or even the 2006/2007 live action version of the rock musical (which is probably going to be equally lame...) Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

Virutally everything he's done is sappy, except "schindlers list", yet that corny and sappy opening and ending.....
Plus he butchered "A.I" [Edited 1/25/05 18:12pm]

'The Terminal' is based on true story that had been previously made into a film called 'Here to Where' ( http://www.imdb.com/title...ft=21;fm=1 ). This film features the actual Iran refugee, Merhan "Alfred" Nasseri, in a docudrama version of the events. Unfortunately Spielberg's version of events trivialises and Americanises what is actually quite a poignant story.
Definitely worth the hunt to find it.

Plus he butchered "A.I" [Edited 1/25/05 18:12pm] Exactly, not even schindler´s list is without its sappiness. I don´t think I have liked an Spielberg film since...since...ET?
