He is never ever going to live that down. He didn't recommend it, but he didn't hate it enough. I've never seen the drivel and I likely never will. And, yes, my comment was re-stating the obvious. My bad.

God, it made up for all the times when he treats Roeper like a dumbass. Hilarious to see him try and defend the movie's "good points" on TV, with Roeper just sitting there in awe. Definitely his lowest moment.

And all because he likes J.Lo's tits.

But he is a dumbass. lol Gene Siskel wasn't my favorite critic, but at least he knew about film. If you wanna talk fan boy...that's Roeper in a nutshell.

if you look at the rottentomatoes rating Passions (cream of the crop- which is comprised of legit critics and not just any fanboy who has a website dedicated to film reviews) and you will see it has a rating of 37%.....thats not split....thats way below split....couple that with the fact it didnt get any award recognition from guilds, groups and association and i think its easy to see the film was not liked...at all!!

When did Peter Travers, the BBC and Rober Ebert become fanboys? And James Berardinelli is pretty much seen as the only legit web-based film critic. Not a fanboy.

They are all under the Cream Of The Crop section, no? I don't think sos was intimating they were fanboys.

no, u misunderstood me...Rottentomatoes overall ratings (which Passions recieved 51% approval) is comprised of fanboys *and* legit filmcritics.....its "Cream of the Crop" only includes critics (such as Travers, Ebert and what not)....so, with that in mind.... Passions only recieved a 37% approval..far from a split decision..the movie was panned..accept it. biggrin

Maybe that's how he likes 'em.

All I know is that it's the only way to explain his reviews of Maid In Manhattan (***), The Cell (****) and Angel Eyes (***).

I accept nothing. Do you actually see films or just watch the Oscars and read Rotten Tomatoes? I'm not saying the film was great. I said it had its supporters and it split people. Case in point - this thread.

lol Actually it kind of proves sos' point. We have you, who didn't like it enough to nominate it, me and sos who hated it, and June7, who liked it.

A movie that splits reviewers and audiences to that extent doesn't really have a chance at the Oscars.

umm yes...but when discussing a fims relevance you cant go on your own opinion to gauge how a film has resonated with the public...rottentomatoes, box office numbers and critical responce are all factors in determining the films impact...

you know that, you aint gotta go for a lowblow....but u claimed the film was recieved with mixed critical responce....which wasnt true....it was recieveed poorly by critics.....i still love you.. hug kisses

i liked Catwoman..Does that mean I can claim it was recieved by mixed responce from critics?

Hmm, although the noms are pretty good, I can't believe Mel Gibson or Cavezial (sp?) didn't get nominated for Passions of the Christ. Also, Paul Giamotti didn't get nominated for Sideways.

hmmm

I can. Hollywood is a jealous bunch. They think it made more than enough bucks without Oscar coverage.

And Hillary Swank and Annette Benig will be going at it again (1999 underdog Swank won for BOYS DON't CRY over Being in AMERICAN BEAUTY)...should be interesting!

It won't be all that interesting. I think Swank will win again and sadly, Benning will be one of those actors that never get their Oscar props. Bill Murrary and Angela Basset come to mind, although sadly, Basset hasn't been in anything worthy of watching in a while, has she? Put Paul Giamatti on that list! Not even a nod. I'd be shocked as hell now if Fox didn't win. There's no "indie" threat.

She'll get it when she deserves it. She's been good and she was great in American Beauty, but she's been upstaged twice now by Hilary Swank. Fitting, I think, given the nature of her role in Being Julia.

I think he was a shoe in. I haven't seen "The Avaitor" (nor do I care to) but it was really his movie. The surprise nod I see is Clint Eastwood! Really?

Politics aside, it was an incredibly moving film. Movies need to be based on their art, why the fuck are politics surrounding a movie... it's the art!!!
I know that I am naive for thinking that film should be based on the content of the film... politics are everywhere.

Oh, and Fahrenheit 9/11 didn't get nominated for best documentary!!! no no no! More politics... confused

Nope, it's because Moore submitted it for Best Picture instead, thinking he had a shot. If it's not submitted it can't be nominated.

That was a dumb ass move. He couldn't seriously think he had a shot. All of those movies (like almost every other year) come out if not on Christmas Day, at least the fourth quarter!

None of those roles looked Oscar worthy and I think damn near all six (it only seemed like twenty) of those movies under preformed or tanked! The ride has to be over now!

When she deserves it? The Oscars are politics then performance. I'm not taking anything away from Swank's performances but how many times has the best preformance won, really? Just last year, I don't blame Bill Murray for walking out.

It's a movie that matronly women will like, from what I've read. Kind of campy - a biopic about some icon lost in the dustbin of history. You can be forgiven for not knowing about it - most people don't.

Consensus seems to be that she doesn't deserve it for this role.

Well she's never going to win. If I were her, I'd just stop trying and do a big budger "diaster" flick. Hell, Swank won and she did one! I won't be surprised if in a year or two we see Anette Benning, in space, fighting a virus.

im wondering if Moreno or Staunton have a chance for an upset..I just dont see Swank getting a second oscar so quickly...Your looking at Fields, Hepburn, Foster and a few others getting double lead female wins...Is Swank really in that category?
