"Love is clockworks...and cold steel, fingers to numb to feel, squeeze the handle, blow out the candle...love is blindness."

U2 - Love is Blindness

The complicated mechanism that is "love"...desperation...

that whole song is incredible. the lyrics and the music
work so well together. "desperation" is the right word
for it indeed. I love all the lyrics there.

From Pink "18 Wheeler"

I can't even tell you some of the horror stories of my youth. Growing up gay served me many wicked dishes all of them served ice cold. Somehow someway I have always made it through and this lyric is me.

Glad to have you around, man.

from "gota be" by b2k. not a stellar group but i love that line 'cause when your your in a relationship you share food or eat off of their plate, intimate stuff that you wouldn't let anybody do.

“Horses in my dreams. Like waves, like the sea. They pull out of here. They pull they are free”

PJ Harvey "Horses in my dreams"

The power of freedom. When it's real it's as uncontrollable as wild horses running free.

Ah, your hair is beautiful - Ah-ah-ah, tonight.

From 'Atomic' by Blondie.

I like it because it's simple and silly but sums the whole song up. It's a slightly vacuous compliment but heartfelt. It's just like the sort of thing you'd say to somebody in a nightclub.

Joni Mitchell -from "The Last Time I Saw Richard"

The last time I saw Richard was Detroit in '68
and he told me:

"All romantics meet the same fate some day;
cynical and drunk and boring someone in some dark café"

because that's what real romantics are to me
well, the kind that talk about making love on
a bed strewn with rose petals and such...

Because it sparked me to write one of the most important things I have ever written:

"You were stealing me away from me
Nobody needed me anymore than me
And It's amazing how the tears fall
Water seeds that grow to be your strength to leave
Cuz I'm finally at the point
where I'm ready for the truth
and anything i do from here to make me happy
is up to me not you."

Cohen and Dylan use very beautiful imagery, Prince is very innovative at times (sometimes too cheesy) but the king, LE ROI, is Jacques Brel. I think he's got thousands of beautiful lines, his whole work is pure poetry. I'll give you some sentences from his best-known song, 'Ne me quitte pas'

Hell, I can't choose, and this is just one song ! lol

Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

When you start to take things too seriously or things feel like they're impossible or too much, this really keeps things in perspective.

No matter how dark things may seem, the light's still out there.

I guess the trick is having enough patience to wait for the light to come around. smile

Lodger

Tori Amos "Gold Dust"

And somewhere Alfie smiles
and says, "Enjoy her every cry
You can see in the dark
Through the eyes of Laura Mars"
How did it go so fast
You'll say as we are looking back
and then we'll understand
we held gold dust
in our
hands

I just can't explain what I feel when I hear those lines! touched
