Why are Farts associated with Masculinity?

Well, think about it.

Women are not allowed to fart socially in public.
And even though it is considered rude, it's all but expected of men to do so.

Some of us even consider it a humerous right of passage.

I remember my third night in basic training when I joined the military.
I slept in a bay with 60 other guys. We where all DEAD SCARED the first two and a half days, and no one dared say or do anything that might get us yelled at (as if that was avoidable).

However, on the third night, after "lights out", after about 10 minutes or so of quiet, Airman Springer from my flight let out a loud one and the entire bay erupted into school girl giggles and roars of laughter. From that night on strong friendships where built that carry on until today 12 years later. All becuase of a fart.

Could you imagine women farting like that and building friendships? Girls would probably die of embarrassment for the person who did it, and then pretend that they didn't "hear it" just to let the momment pass.

But what I want to know is--they have the same organs that men have--so witht he same equipment, they can do the same damage. Why is it that they don't?

I understand that this is a philosophical contemplation of sorts, so I won't be offended it it gets moved to the P&R forum.

sweetserene

Because we still have deep notions left over from our past as a society that women should be/are pristine and perfect.

Yes, I agree with you. In public. Within families I don't think there is much difference. Farts are funny, they are a basic human form of expression. Even babies think farts are funny, the raspberry sound is the first sound that makes them laugh.
