I agree, the attitude of a few of the people on this thread sickens me. Johnny Carson has just died, and all's some of you can do is dig up dirt on him and make the comment that he was not a good person? Can't you just post your condolences and move on? How would you feel if this was a member of your family who died, and people were saying nasty things about him/her? I'm willing to bet that the people posting negative comments on here would not like it one bit if someone were to diss their recently deceased relative. [Edited 1/23/05 18:53pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The man was a genius in late night, and one of things I love most about him is privacy after the show ended.

I hope they show that Larry King show that you mentioned in your post again, so I can watch it. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

- johnny was the king ...
the surprising thing here ... i think ... kinda surprising .... was his cause of death .... emphysema ... isnt that mainly a cause of smoking !!?? i remember johnny as one of the last guys on TV to actually smoke on the set ... in between gigs, etc ... and he tried to hide it alil ... but ... it was not uncommon to see him taking one last drag as the camera rolled !

It is the general consensus that Johnny Carson's emphysema was caused by a long time habit of chain smoking.
Johnny Carson was a wonderful tv personality. What kind of person was he? Few know because he was an extremely private person. His show was unique because he was a genuine person. He didn't air his issues public, but he didn't deny them either. And he didn't have "the latest flavor" on his show. He gave unknowns a chance. That showed raw talent to the audience. Something you don't see anymore. RIP Mr. Carson I'm firmly planted in denial

I was very sad to hear this.
I grew up with Johnny and was a huge fan - my parents watched that monologue every night Letterman was right - all who followed were imitators and we may never see the likes of him again. RIP. VOTE....EARLY

Let's just white wash it and say he did nothing wrong. [bad taste snippet -June7]! If we can't be honest, I'm gone.
